FNV Week 7 Facts and Fun

By Frank Vajcner

This week has been insane.

Due to commitments to my day job, as well as announcing volleyball on multiple nights, I was unable to partake in our Week 7 video and provide viewers with useful information on this week’s action.

Since I had already made my notes, I decided to take them and make a post for your reading pleasure. I can go into a little more detail on each team, since I don’t have time constraints of Zoom.

Woodhaven at Carlson

Carlson: The Marauders have won the last three vs Woodhaven. The last time they won 4 straight was 1995-1998, which was during the days of the old Mega Conference. (Side note: am I the only one who would love to see a documentary on the old Mega Conference?)

The Marauders will need to avoid a hangover from a surprising loss to Trenton last week, especially with a huge showdown with Allen Park looming in Week 8.

Woodhaven: The Warriors are currently one of the last four teams in the playoffs in Division 1. However, a loss this week will not eliminate them from contention.

Bedford at AA Huron

Bedford: The Mules are currently the last team in in Division 2. Using the Playoff Wizard from Goosepoop, wins over Huron and Monroe should get them in. A loss to Huron will likely eliminate them.

Ann Arbor Huron: The River Rats are currently 43rd in playoff points in Division 1, and will need to win out to qualify.

Dexter at Monroe

Monroe: The Trojans can still qualify for the playoffs. They can do so by winning out, OR with a loss to Dexter, and winning out. They can also qualify with wins in Weeks 7 and 8 as of this writing.

Dexter: Thanks to Saline having to forfeit a win over the Dreadnaughts in Week 2, Dexter is now first in playoff points in Division 2.

Erie Mason at Summerfield

Summerfield: The Bulldogs can clinch the last ever Tri-County Conference crown with a win. They will also be looking to end a five-game losing skid to Erie Mason.

Erie Mason: The Eagles have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

NOTE: This will be the final TCC football game.

Whiteford at Everest

NOTE: This will be the first regular-season meeting between both teams, with all three previous meetings coming in the postseason.

Whiteford: The Bobcats could get in the playoffs, even if they finish 3-6. Getting at least a win or two in the final three will keep them from likely playing SMCC in Round 1 (I have made it known that I would love to see this matchup, but it would be better in a later round).

Hudson at Dundee

Dundee: The Vikings have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

Hudson: The Tigers currently sit seventh in Division 7 playoff points.

Ida at Adrian Madison

Ida: The Blue Streaks are a win away from qualifying for the playoffs. However, they are projected to be a 4-seed, according to Snooze 2 You. What hurts the Streaks is having wins over two winless teams (Hillsdale and Grosse Ile). Bonus points will be critical for home field advantage. The Streaks are 21st in playoff points.

Adrian Madison: The Trojans are looking to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2009 in a non-covid year. They currently sit 19th in playoff points.

Jefferson at Airport

Airport: The Jets are 41st in playoff points, and need to win out to qualify for playoffs.

Jefferson: As of this writing, the Bears could make the playoffs by winning out.

Grosse Ile at Huron

Huron: The Chiefs have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

Grosse Ile: The Red Devils need to average 14.3 points per game over final three games to avoid setting a school record for lowest scoring in a nine game season.

Riverview at Milan

Riverview: The Pirates, much like Ida, are also in need of bonus points for home field advantage. They are currently 19th in points in Division 3, and are projected as a 3-seed in the district. Riverview has not lost consecutive games since 2019.

Milan: The Big Reds are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Winning out would get them in, but they could get in even with a loss to Riverview as of now. Milan has also not scored more than seven points in all but two games.

Flat Rock at SMCC

SMCC: The Falcons are currently first in playoff points in Division 7, and will be looking to secure home-field advantage throughout. For this game, they will be wearing special “Salute to Armed Forces” uniforms.

Flat Rock: The Rams are looking to avoid the late-season lapse that bit them last  regular season. The last time they won at the friendly confines of Navarre Field was 1998

  • The last time Dundee only won 2 games or less- 2014.
They should be begging Jack Giarmo to take that program over. He would do wonders at Dundee.

  • Chris just spread downriver voodoo on CC.. saying they haven't turned the ball over all season...watch them come out and lay an egg as Riverview did to them. I smell a 3 way tie.
Weird things happen at Navarre field and they aren't always pleasant for SMCC..please see Hailmary passes of the past..
Does anyone remember SMCC 06 losing in a rain storm to Bishop Foley?? 12-6.. at least 7-8 fumbles and 5 to 6 were lost. BF threw short passes and scored in the final minute to win...
The Constantine one still hurts- that might be the best SMCC team ever.

  • Frank,
Fun fact, the 1998 CC/FR game was Jack Giarmo's First year as HC of the Falcons. That game was played at the Old FR HS Field. FR won 34-28. The last time FR won at CC was 2001- Casey Steffen opened the game with a 85 yard Koff return. FR started that year off 4-0, only to finish 4-5.
    MOM THE MEATLOAFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
