In a heart-stopping LCAA opener, the Onsted Wildcats edged out the Dundee Vikings 34-31 in front of a packed Homecoming crowd. Dundee trailed most of the game but staged a late comeback, taking the lead 31-26 with just 1:03 left in the 4th quarter. However, Onsted’s Aiden Paquin responded with a dazzling 90-yard kickoff return touchdown, and the Wildcats converted the 2-point conversion to take the lead with 49 seconds remaining.
Dundee’s final drive ended with an incomplete pass at the Onsted 10-yard line as time expired. Onsted moves to 2-1 on the season, while Dundee falls to 1-2. Joey Brink led the Vikings with 215 yards rushing, while Lucas Manders paced the Wildcats with 168 yards passing and 33 yards rushing.
The game was marked by dramatic swings, with Onsted blocking a punt for a touchdown and Dundee recovering two fumbles and intercepting two passes. In the end, Paquin’s electrifying kickoff return proved the difference-maker in a game for the ages.
Dundee (1-2) will travel to 2-1 Adrian Madison next week to battle the Trojans.
