Anson’s in Carleton, Michigan, formerly known as The Red Horse Inn, is a delightful throwback for anyone who remembers it from childhood, as I do. The nostalgia of returning to this spot is enhanced by the warm and welcoming atmosphere that has been maintained over the years. While the name may have changed, the quality of the food and the cozy, inviting environment make Anson’s feel like the familiar place I once knew. The friendly service and laid-back ambiance make it the perfect spot for a family meal or a casual night out with friends.
During our game day visit, Gary, as suggested by a reader, opted for the “Big and Sticky” burger, and it was an absolute hit. The combination of savory and sweet with peanut butter on the bun was unusual, but surprisingly, it worked perfectly. The peanut butter added a creamy texture and a subtle sweetness that elevated the entire burger. It was one of those dishes that sounds strange but leaves you craving another bite. Anson’s willingness to experiment with flavors like this shows that they aren’t afraid to think outside the box, and it’s paying off.
Derek, a pizza lover, ordered one of Anson’s pizzas and was thoroughly impressed. As someone with a deep appreciation for pies, and considers himself a tough critic, Derek declared this pizza to be one of his favorites. The crust was perfectly crisp, the sauce was flavorful, and the toppings were fresh and generously portioned. It was clear that the kitchen takes care in crafting their pizzas, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. For anyone looking for a top-tier pizza in the area, Anson’s is a must-try.
Jeff, on a personal mission to find the best burger in Monroe County, went with the “Angry Angus”. While his quest continues, he was more than satisfied with what Anson’s had to offer. The burger was cooked just right, juicy on the inside, with a slight char on the outside, and packed with flavor. The Jalapeños added the kick he was looking for. Anson’s clearly takes pride in their burger game, and Jeff felt it was one of the best he’s had in the area so far.
Overall, our experience at Anson’s was nothing short of excellent. The food, whether it was burgers or pizza, was prepared with care, and the unique flavor combinations made it stand out. For those who grew up visiting The Red Horse Inn, like I did, Anson’s has done a great job of honoring that legacy while putting its own spin on the menu. It’s the kind of place where you can expect a great meal, warm service, and maybe even a new favorite dish.
