With the current playoff point system and the LCAA 'absorbing' Whiteford and Mason for the next two years. Will that make Dundee wanna jump ship and join a different league. Not too many options around.
Frank may wanna jump in. But I doubt it. You simply have to win enough games. 6-3 will get it done. 5-4 nearly did.
Jump to the Huron?? Juicy. Schedule Ida week 1.
I like your thinking there.
When will all MHSAA teams make the playoffs? Will this make scheduling easier?
How about no?
Nobody should have an issue scheduling Riverview. The bigger schools know they will win a lot of games. Thus more points, even if they are playing down vs view.
And that’s the last I’ll comment on it… til next year :)
Hopefully never
Gary just so you know openers are hard to find when you are a good d3 school. Bigger teams don't want to risk losing to a lower devision out of conference. The playoff point system made it a lot harder to schedule up divisions for non conference games. All that said GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!
Other schools find a way....
Riverview is in such a good place right now in their program.
They are likely an overwhelming favorite in 7 of 9 games, and a solid 7 point favorite in the other 2.
They will have to let off the gas to not put 80 up in week 1.
I would just love to see them open up with a banger... as a fan.
They schedule Monroe, D1, and Renaissance, D2. Monroe is no pushover and Renaissance is a larger school that would likely beat LP, Edsel Ford, Taylor, and Wyandotte. There's no incentive to schedule some big school juggernaut and risk injuries when what mostly matters with playoff points is school size. If anything they should take full advantage and schedule Taylor. You look at Trenton, they rack up easy wins over those four, go 5-4 and make the playoffs. Way too much credit is given to school size imo. Just imagine if SMCC played in the downriver league. All they'd have to do is win three games over terrible programs and they'd be in every year.
So you wouldn’t like to see Riverview really challenge themselves in the non league portion. Ok. They certainly don’t have to.
Monroe was an upgrade. But Riverview has been the better team.
I would just like to see it as a fan. I’m not saying play the likes of Rockford, but how about OLSM, Groves, Richmond…. Again, would be fun to see, vice a 50 point beat down.
I’ll leave you with this. When is the last time Riverview won a game, where they weren’t a favorite?
Sounds like I’m bashing the Pirates, but this is not the case. The feeling of being challenged(by a better team) in the regular season, can help when you ultimately play a better team in the playoffs.
Last year, Riverview was not the favorite versus Flat Rock. I think you forgot about that one. Strategically it's just a bad decision because there really isn't a huge reward in the risk of either a loss, or an injury. A school has to do what's in it's best interest to make a playoff run and secure as many home games as possible. The only thing that matters each season is how things end up. They could do something like jump to the DRL for the sake of playoff points, but in the long run, I don't see Riverview's numbers growing, I see them shrinking. Just 30 years ago there were three schools in the Huron league with higher enrollment and I'd expect a few of those, Huron, Milan, Airport, and Jefferson to grow being that they have the land in their communities to develop. Only 60 percent of Riverview's actual enrollment is Riverview residents so basing the future size on school of choice would be a foolish move. At the moment, there really isn't any other place that makes sense for Riverview to be. Not much in the way of D3-4 in the area. Sure, the team's recent performance is impressive, but injuries can derail a team's season pretty easily, just look to 21 where they lost their top talent by game nine and went nowhere in the playoffs. Too much risk, not enough reward. I'd be in favor of scheduling a DRL team, but that's about it. For them, there's no incentive to potentially lose to a D3.
Thought...leave in comments or something but time stamp when u start talking about each game??
