Flat Rock Rams: Hope and Concern 2024

Let’s move over to Flat Rock and check out the “Mighty” Rams.

Reason for Hope: In a word, Graham Junge. The senior QB has rewritten all the record books in the Monroe County area and seems poised to have another great season. Junge has thrown for nearly 5,000 yards in his career and a whopping 55 TD’s. It probably helps that two of his favorite targets return in Adam and Evan Szalay. The athletic brothers combined for 60 catches and 10 TD’s in 2023.

Reason for Concern: The Rams must find a way to replace the 2023 FNV Co-Overall Player of the Year, Brian Booms. Booms rarely if ever left the field of play. Booms was one of the best players ever to play at Flat Rock and replacing him with 1, 2 or even 3 players will be a near impossible task.

  • I agree with Gary and Chris. SMCC played a masterful game. They were the better team that night. Flatrock should have won 2022. Ball was dropped in the end zone at least two times. They have a great coaching staff, but hopefully the defensive coaches learn how to defend against the T this year. One last thought, thanks Frank for all your hard work on the series you bring to us. Well done.

  • Call me crazy but I think the Rams have an even better record than last year! Aside from Riverview who will be better than everyone, theres not a team on the Rams' schedule they can't beat. They should have beat SMCC last year, Airport will be down, and Huron escaped them last year. I think 8-1 or 7-2 at worst is a real possibility.

    Find a way!!!

    • Terry,

Other than a 2 point win in 2017, the Rams have not beaten the Falcons since 2001.
I would be careful saying FR should have won last year.

If you went to the game, I assume you did, it puzzles me how you think FR should have won that game.
SMCC put on a master class in ball control and execution. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.

      • Gary, you are 100 Percent correct. It was a classic game of keep away by their offense, and their defense was also really good. Cant wait to see how it goes this year.

        • Ya.. dont get me wrong.. I figured Flat Rock would win that game, like most did.
Maybe that is what the original commenter is saying.

I loved that FR team, and I'm sure in '24 they will be very good as well.

          • Hey Gary,
Talent to talent, Flat Rock had more last year. I expected Flat Rock to move the ball all over the field thanks to Junge. Some questionable penalties and dropped balls hurt their offense.

            Defensively, I make no excuse.

Special teams, Flat Rock was better. They had excellent field position all night.

Nothing against SMCC. They do what they do well. I just personally think the Rams time is coming. They were a dropped ball away with no time remaining in 2022, and then last year. They're getting closer.
