Summit Academy (8-2) enters the MHSAA District Final fresh off of a 17-8 victory over Romulus while Flat Rock (7-3) handily beat Milan 42-0. This will be the second consecutive District Final match up between the Dragons and Rams.

Flat Rock

Head Coach: Buck Reaume

Flat Rock Playoff Record: 5-4

Record vs. 2023 Playoff Teams: 3-2 (W 33-21 vs Airport, L 36-34 vs Riverview, W 49-21 vs Milan, L 28-17 vs SMCC, W 42-0 vs Milan)

Players to Watch:

Brian Booms, Senior: Booms is an FNV Overall Player of the Year candidate after excelling on both sides of the ball in 2023. The rugged RB has rushed for nearly 1,400 yards and 24 TD’s. On defense he has recorded over 100 tackles.

Graham Junge, Junior: Junge is having another great season as he has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards in 2023 and has thrown 22 TD’s.

Jacob Hagen, Junior: The speedy S/LB for the Rams has recorded 70 tackles this season and is arguably the fastest player on the Flat Rock squad.

Michael Beaudrie, Senior: The 6-4, 220 lb 3 year starter is a standout player for the Rams on both sides of the ball. On offense he anchors the line at OT and has recorded nearly 40 tackles from his defensive line position.

Rocco Breslin, Senior: The physical TE/LB Breslin has had a solid year on both sides of the ball as he has recorded 50 tackles on defense and caught 24 passes for 7 TD’s on offense.

Overview: This is a rematch of last years District Final where the Rams literally stole the game from the Dragons as they scored 11 points late in what was a 29-28 Ram victory. While the Dragons have the better record, there is a reason the Rams have the homefield advantage. Flat Rock appears to have played the tougher schedule and should be considered the favorite against their upset minded opponent from nearby Huron Township.

  • Last year summit was a very talented but undisciplined team… this year they are a lot less talented and the same discipline issues. Rams by 21.

  • Summit doesn’t have a chance. I was at the game last year and summit just doesn’t have the discipline or coaching to pull it off. This season they have only played against two decent teams and lost to both. Flat rock has seen real coaching and real competition, where as summit has been playing remedial competition. I can’t see this one even being close. RAMS by 28!!!!

      • Flat Rock will win by 4 TDS.
They have record setting QB, record setting RB, record setting LB.
This game will be a running clock.

    • Flat Rock needed a minor miracle to win on their home field last year, when summit played a very similar schedule to this year’s. The only 2 teams summit have lost to this season are still playing as well. If Summit controls the line of scrimmage like they did last year IMO this game will be very close.

      • It's not a bad take but I personally dont see it.

Summit will have to play a clean game, which in the past has been an issue.
Their speed will have to be on full display to keep this within 20.

    • Flat Rock needs to stop admiring all the records their players are setting, and get ready for the game.
Save that stuff for the post season banquet.
