2023 Schedule Analysis: Flat Rock Rams

By Frank Vajcner

We now find our way (pun not intended) to the alma mater of our founder, Chris Schultz. Flat Rock had the best turnaround of any blog team last season, as they went 8-4. Will the schedule allow the Rams to keep finding success?

2023 Schedule:

Aug 24: @ Dundee

Aug 31: @ Grosse Ile

Sept 8: Airport

Sept 15: Jefferson

Sept 22: @ Riverview

Sept 29: @ Milan

Oct 6: SMCC

Oct 13: New Boston Huron

Oct 20: Livonia Clarenceville

Gut-Check Game: Look no further than a Week 5 trip to Riverview. If the Rams want to be considered a contender in the Huron League, getting a win over the Pirates, who have won their last 23 Huron League games, will be paramount. You can also include the home opener against Airport in Week 3, as the Rams will be looking to take back “The Jug,” and avenge a 21-19 loss last season.

Trap Game: I know I caught a lot of flack from Rams’ fans for not picking them to beat Grosse Ile last season (and admittedly, I had to eat crow). So before everyone decides to burn down the comment section, please take into account that the trip to “The Island” comes right before Airpot visits. Jefferson also warrants mention, as the Bears come in right before the trip to Riverview. Allow me to somewhat repeat myself: both games are in classic look-ahead spots. So, Rams’ fans, keep the references to last year’s picks put away.

Snoozer: None to be found here.

Non-Conference Challenge: Flat Rock opens the season with a playoff rematch against Dundee. The Rams defeated the Vikings 27-22 in the first round of last year’s playoffs. Livonia Clarenceville comes to town to end the regular season. The Rams defeated the Trojans in a 57-56 barnburner last year.

Notable: This will be the first regular-season meeting with the Vikings since 1995…Week 3 will mark the opening of a renovated Marv Mittlestadt Field, which will be all turf…All but two of the Rams’ games will be played on turf.

Final Thoughts from Frank: It’s definitely not a stretch to say that Flat Rock could start 4-0 (the last time that happened was 2001). Having a home-field advantage against Airport, SMCC, and Huron will only help the Rams. Consecutive playoff appearances have never happened, but I have no doubt that Reaume and company can find a way.

Side Note: We’ve added a donation option if you like the content and would like to contribute. Think of us as a family dinner at McDonalds’ or a trip to the Party Store except we last for 5 months instead of just a few hours or a night. We will be here all season. Venmo seems to be the thing these days. Just scan the code below. Thank you for reading and we hope you enjoy our content.
