Weekly Power Rankings

Here are the final Power Rankings of the season as we give way to the playoffs.

  1. Riverview (9-0), Pirates reclaim the #1 spot after dismantling Monroe.
  2. Whiteford (9-0), Bobcats are my favorites to win Division 8
  3. Bedford (7-2), the Kicking Mules have a legit chance at a Final 4 in Division 2
  4. Carlson (8-1), I like the Marauders chances of a possible Final 4 appearance in Division 3.
  5. Airport (7-2), the Jets have a huge opportunity against a high powered Tecumseh offense.
  6. Flat Rock (6-3), the Rams surprise everyone but themselves with a #1 District seed.
  7. Huron (6-3), the Chiefs hand Division 2 Crestwood their 3rd loss. Big date at Carlson on Friday.
  8. Dundee (6-3), Vikings lose the backyard brawl at Ida. Great opportunity at FR this week.
  9. Erie Mason (6-3), the Eagles played their way into the playoffs with a victory over Jefferson.
  10. Grosse Ile (5-4), the Red Devils played their way into the playoffs with a victory over Detroit Henry Ford.

    • I don't really get into debates on rankings but Airport did beat Flat Rock and has a better overall record.

      • Chris. I really think you guys are doing a great job with everything you post.
Can you explain your formula for the rankings
That would help clear up the ranking issues people are having.
        This is my point.
Airports strength of schedule is weaker. That’s why they worried if they would make the playoffs with a 6 win season.
It is shows in the MHSAA point system. They are 3 points lower they Huron and 2.85 lower they flatrock.

        Huron 51.23
        Flatrock 50.90
        Airport 48.11

It look like if you lose early it’s better for your rankings

        • I guess there is no real method to my madness on this topic. I do as much research as possible on the teams and a pay attention to what's going on then give the rankings. Quite frankly, there isn't much difference between these 3 teams. In this case someone has to be 5, 6 and 7.

As for playoff points, I'm not a fan of the system, especially when it rewards a team for getting blown out by an opponent. Is it better? Sure it is, but far from perfect.
