2022 FNV Power Rankings

Here are the early season power rankings for the top 10 teams in our coverage area. Last season’s records are in parenthesis. I fully expect things to jump around a bit as the season unfolds. Check back each week to see where your team stands. Agree? Disagree? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.

  1. Riverview (9-1), Pirates lost a bunch of starters from last season, including FNV Overall Player of the Year, Preston Thompson. However, the Pirates have built a winning culture under Head Coach Derek McLaughlin and they should just reload.
  2. Bedford (7-3), The Kicking Mules return three starters on the offensive line along with Tyler Boerst at running back. Look for another solid season from Bedford.
  3. Monroe (4-5), The Trojans finished a disappointing 4-5 last season. Still, the arrival of Head Coach Dave Mifsud, a host of successful veteran coaches and some quality returning players has many believing that Monroe may turn things around quickly.
  4. Whiteford (11-2), The Bobcats return virtually everyone (minus All-State Noah Bauman and Head Coach Jason Mensing of course) from a team that came within a whisker of going to Ford Field in 2021.
  5. Airport (4-5), The Jets are poised to have their best season under Head Coach Jim Duffy as they return a total of 16 starters and have bonafide star power in juniors; Cooper Nye, Jack Mills and Nolan Zajac.
  6. Carlson (9-2), First-year Head Coach Jason Gendron returns 20 lettermen in Gibraltar and there may not be a better player in the area than 6-5, 250lb senior TE/DE Ben Przytula.
  7. Milan (8-3), The Big Reds suffered heavy graduation losses, but they have simply reloaded every season under Head Coach Jesse Hoskins. This year should be no different.
  8. SMCC (9-2), The Falcons suffered heavy graduation losses as well, but as the saying goes down on W. Elm Street, ” Tradition Never Graduates”. I fully expect the young Falcons to get better each week and rise in the Power Rankings.
  9. Ida (8-3), Ida has been extremely consistent under Head Coach Jeff Potter and this year should be no different as the Bluestreaks feature a solid running attack.
  10. Huron (5-5), The Chiefs have yet another new coach this season as Allen Park legend Tom Hoover arrives on the banks of the “Mighty Huron River”. The cupboard was not left bare. The Chiefs have plenty of talent, but do they have enough.

  • why is Smcc in the top 10? they have no talent on this years team.. i watched them at the Ida scrimmage. they are slow and don’t get off the ball.. they will finish in the bottom half of the Huron League.. the only reason they are in the top ten is because of Gary.. i’m predicting a 3-6 season..

    • Hey Milan step -dad, If SMCC has no talent and won't compete with anyone this year how are they going to win 3 games this year? Would'nt that make them 0-9? Just wondering.

  • While I do agree that my big reds have lost some fire power, I think that any placement below 3 is incorrect. We will look back at this soon and laugh when Milan finishes 10-1.

  • Airport #5. I’m left speechless for the first time ever…They should be good but they need size and strength in the trenches to compete with Riverview, Milan, and SMCC.

      • Don’t drink the kool aid yet Chris! I’ve been drinking it for 10+ years and look where it’s got me! I’m One of the very few Airport people that still follow this blog-or should I say comment on this blog. 10 years ago it was nothing but Airport trash talkers on here (they disappeared rather quickly). Those were the days…

  • Where is the guy that bet me in 2020 FR would win the HL title this year.
He might as well hope they win 2 games
Someone is going to owe me Adult beverages

    • Here I am!

I will have to go back to see exactly what I said but I believe I said they are coming and lookout over next few years.

This year they win more then two games and end up surprising a few teams along the way.

      • What's boring about watching long runs from numerous players every game? Add in a decent passing attack and you get 40 points a game and 500 plus yards offense. Plenty of great tackle breaking talent always makes for exciting plays. Boring? Ha. I suppose if your the opponent and keep watching them steamroll up and down the field.

      • Boring to the newb, mom and dad, and the casual fan. Intricate and precise to real football fans.

  • HM - Jefferson (3-6)
Jefferson has a stellar new coach in Eric Tipton and will turn the season around no questions asked. Look for last years record to be flipped with the Bears finishing in the top half of the very tough Huron league.
