We last saw the Trojans bowing out in the 2020 playoff’s first round. Monroe will look to greatly improve on that outcome in 2021, with a nice balance of experience and athleticism. In his 6th season as Head Coach, Nick Notario will once again lead the Red and White out to battle. His staff includes: Kyle Reed, Jody McCollum, Al Russo, Dave Reed, Cody Wiley, Steph Pietzak, Darrell Mossburg.

Comment from Coach Notario: “We are returning a lot of kids that have played a lot of football for us. We tasted some success last year but didn’t end the way we wanted so the kids are hungry to return to the playoffs this year. Saline is the favorite in the league until someone knocks them off. Bedford is always a tough game and the Ann Arbor schools always have talent. Dexter and Roseville have multiple kids with D1 offers and obviously Riverview is a game everyone around will want to see. We are excited to get out there and compete this year!”
FNV Outlook: I normally try to temper my enthusiasm in regards to my outlook on how I think teams will fair, one way or the other. I have a hard time doing that with the 2021 Trojans. 15 returning starters is a lot. When you count in the fact that 5 of those are on the offensive line, you really have the makings of something special. Panza, out of his hybrid RB/WR role, and DeSeranno RB, should be able to move the sticks with great regularity. Add in Elmer and Brodie on the outside and you have what may be a very fun team to watch. Is this the year Monroe knocks off the perennial SEC power that is the Hornets of Saline and grab what would be their first SEC RED title? I know the late, great Coach Jeric would think so, and that’s good enough for me.

This team has all the pieces to be very good. The Overall strength of this team is by far their big offensive line. The toughest teams in my opinion are Saline, Dexter and Riverview. The overall success of this team will ultimately depend on the preparation the coaches put in week in and week out. This team could win every game this year but I think they will probably end up 7-2 or 6-3 because of the lack of offensive creativity and preparation down the stretch. I hope they prove me wrong.
Going 7-2 with the schedule they have is darn good. I promise you though, preparation won’t be the reason they lose a game. The Monroe coaching staff does a great job.
