Riverview’s Christian Lopez has been named the Friday Night Victor’s 2020 Defensive Player of the Year. The rugged senior captain was the epitome of a great high school football player while leading Riverview to an undefeated regular season (6-0, 7-1 overall) which included a Huron League Championship.
Lopez led a Riverview defense that gave up 15 ppg with 52 tackles while sitting on the sidelines many times in the 2nd half after the game was out of reach. Lopez was a returning 2019 FNV All Blog performer at LB when he recorded 106 tackles for the 8-3 Pirates.
Coach Derek McLaughlin comment: Christian is a great player and person. He is the embodiment of everything we want from the players in our program, tough, selfless, and competitive. Christian was unanimously voted captain, voted homecoming king, and is a star both on and off the field. It was an honor to have coached such a great young man.

One of the finest young men I’ve coached in 40+ years of coaching high school football. Christian embodies what high school football is all about.
Thank you coach! That is very high praise coming from a coach with such a distinguished career. He really enjoyed playing for you.
Congrats! Will he be playing at the next level?
I know it has been some time since the question was asked, but the answer is yes. With hard work both on the field and in the classroom, Christian has decided to play for Kalamazoo College in the fall.
Congrats,it was a lot of fun watching you play.
We are so proud of our nephew over here in Colorado!!!
