Whiteford 2020 Schedule Analysis

2020 Schedule Analysis: Whiteford Bobcats

By Frank Vajcner

The last stop in the Schedule Analysis Series takes us down US-23 to Ottawa Lake. Whiteford saw some regression last season, as they went 5-5 with a fairly young team. Will the schedule allow for the Bobcats to take a step forward, especially in a revamped Tri-County Conference?

2020 Schedule:

Aug 27: Blissfield

Sept 3: @ Ida

Sept 11: Erie Mason

Sept 18: @ Adrian Madison

Sept 25: Morenci

Oct 2: @ Sand Creek

Oct 9: Pittsford

Oct 16: @ Britton-Deerfield

Oct 23: @ Summerfield

Gut-Check Game: Blissfield. The Royals figure to be in the thick of the rugged LCAA this season. When these two teams met in Week 1 last year, it was Blissfield who emerged a 33-14 winner. This will be a good early test for Jason Mensing and company.

Trap Game: at Britton-Deerfield. The last time these two met on the gridiron, it was the Bobcats who prevailed 58-56 in triple overtime over a feisty Patriot team. In addition, the trip to Britton is a week before a rivalry game with Summerfield.

Snoozer: Much like Ann Arbor Huron, mentioning how bad Morenci was last season is just beating a dead horse.

Non-Conference Challenge: Both non-conference games are against LCAA teams. In addition to Blissfield, the Bobcats will take a trip to Ida in Week 2. The Blue Streaks are coming off of a 4-5 season.

Notable: Both TCC newcomers Erie Mason (Week 3) and Pittsford (Week 7) will pay visits to the Bobcats. The Eagles last faced the Bobcats in 2015, while Pittsford last faced the Bobcats in 2010…Ida returns to the schedule for the first time since 1976. Whiteford’s last win over Ida was  a 14-6 decision in 1968, when both schools were in the now-defunct River Raisin Conference.

Thoughts from Frank: Much like last season, we won’t have to wait long to see if Whiteford is going to take a step forward this season, with back-to-back games against Blissfield and Ida. The October slate is no gimme, with three of the final four games on the road, and will be make-or-break in terms of determining whether or not the Bobcats continue their playoff streak to nine straight seasons.

Thoughts from Chris: This is an extremely tough schedule, especially early. Two road games against teams with excellent QB’s emerge late in the season when the Bobcats could likely be in a must win situation in order to advance to the playoffs yet again.

Thoughts from Gary: Ida replacing Stryker alone makes this schedule much tougher. The Bobcats haven’t dropped a game to Sand Creek since 2011. Oct 2 will be a special day in Aggie Land when Whiteford comes calling.

  • Very tough D8 schedule. If Whiteford can survive they could make a mini-run depending on playoff draw.

    • With Reading's graduations, who ever wins the the TCC should be able to make a deep run in D8.
