Grosse Ile 2020 Schedule Analysis

By Frank Vajcner

It’s time for the Grosse Ile 2020 Schedule Analysis. The Grosse Ile Red Devils had a forgettable season last year as they went 2-7. Will the schedule allow for them to bounce back?

2020 Schedule

Aug 28: Riverview Gabriel Richard

Sept 4: @ Milan

Sept 11: Airport

Sept 18: @ Jefferson

Sept 25: @ New Boston Huron

Oct 2: @ Flat Rock

Oct 9: SMCC

Oct 16: Riverview

Oct 23: @ Mount Clemens Clintondale

Gut-Check Game: Riverview Gabriel Richard. When you go 2-7 in the previous season, and open up against a team that made the playoffs, you see an opportunity to make a statement. The Pioneers went 8-3 last season, and made the playoffs for the fifth time in the last six seasons. They also defeated the Devils 21-15 in Week 1 last year. The year before, it was the Devils who emerged a 27-24 winner. The rubber match should be a doozy, and Jon Bodner and company will look to start on the right foot. Special mention to Riverview in Week 8, as not only is the Colvin Cup on the line, but the game also follows a visit from SMCC a week earlier.

Trap Game: at New Boston Huron. The last time the Devils and Chiefs got together on the gridiron, it was the Devils who prevailed in a barnburner 41-38 on the island. Now they must venture to New Boston to face a Chief team looking for revenge. This is also the middle game of a three-game road trip that includes trips to Jefferson and Flat Rock.

Snoozer: None

Non-Conference Challenge: In addition to a visit from Riverview Gabriel Richard, the Devils pay a visit to Mount Clemens Clintondale in Week 9. The Dragons went 5-5 last season, qualifying for the playoffs.

Notable: Clintondale replaces Dearborn Heights Crestwood on the schedule. This will be the fifth meeting between the Devils and Dragons, with the last coming in 1998…Grosse Ile is the only team on the blog that plays three consecutive road games.

Thoughts from Frank: It’s reasonable to expect the Devils to bounce back after last season. However, with no gimmes on the schedule, if Bodner’s squad qualifies for the playoffs, it will be well earned.

Thoughts from Chris: Even though the schedule hasn’t changed much for the Red Devils, many of the great players from the teams they do play have departed. I would expect Grosse Ile to have a significantly better season in 2020.

Thoughts from Gary: Tough schedule through and through for the Red Devils. I expect GI to take a nice stride forward from last year but it wont be easy. They will earn every victory.

  • Grosse Ile can really go no place but up. The HL will be down from last season and the Devils will be better. That is never a bad combo.
