Kalbfleisch Named Carlson Interim Coach

Former New Boston Huron and current Carlson Athletic Director/Assistant Principal Dan Kalbfleisch was named the interim head football coach at Carlson on Tuesday. He replaces Jack Giarmo who stepped away from the program after 3 successful seasons in late January.

Kalbfleisch was the head coach at Huron for 12 seasons and compiled an overall record of 49-65. The Chiefs qualified for the playoffs 3 times under Kalbfleisch and were 3-3 in post-season play during his tenure.

In 2014, Huron made in improbable run as they advanced to the Division 3 semi-finals where they lost to the eventual state Champion, Orchard Lake St. Mary. That was the beginning of the Eaglet’s three state titles and a roster that included future Penn State star K.J. Hammler and Michigan’s Josh Ross.

Huron had 25 consecutive losing seasons prior to Kalbfleisch’s arrival and had gone winless in 7 of those seasons. The Chiefs won just 4 games in the 7 seasons prior to his arrival and had never qualified for the playoffs prior to his arrival.

Carlson had interest in the position and will continue to look for a long term replacement. The Marauder’s will return 16 letter winners from a team that finished 6-4 in 2019.
