Week 2 Player of the Week Poll

Week 2 Player of the Week Candidates

By Frank Vajcner

Devin Albain, QB, Summerfield: Albain passed for 333 yards and two touchdowns in Summerfield’s 18-0 win over Pittsford. It was the second straight week that the junior reached the 300 passing yard mark. The Bulldogs improved to 1-1 with the victory.

Noah Beaudrie, QB, Erie Mason: Beaudrie picked up right where he left off last week, as he rang up 485 total yards of offense (276 rushing, 209 passing), and accounted for eight touchdowns (five rushing, three passing) in the Eagles’ record-setting 80-42 win over Britton-Deerfield. It was the first time a Monroe County team reached 80 points since 1959, when SMCC (then Monroe Catholic Central) defeated Ida 83-0.

Sam Cousino, RB/LB, SMCC: Cousino began SMCC’s contest against Airport by starting at tight end. But with the Falcons down 14-0 late in the first half, Cousino returned to the Falcon backfield, and turned the game around with a 51-yard touchdown run on his first carry. The senior would finish with 133 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons’ 42-21 win over Airport. Cousino also recorded six tackles (two TFLs) on defense.

Dundee Offensive Line: Linemen rarely get the recognition they deserve, but Jared Stall (RT), Jon Helmstadter (RG), Ethan Abbott (C), Nic Bellaire (LG), Chris Elmes and Dennis Root (LT), and TEs Ty Schroeder, Hunter Carlson, and Elek LaPalme are all getting credit, as they paved the way for the Vikings to ring up 630 yards of offense (529 rushing yards), as well as a school-record 74 points in a 74-30 win over Stockbridge.

Jimari Moultrie, RB, Riverview: Moultrie did his part in helping the Pirates make a statement to open Huron League play, as the junior rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries in Riverview’s 28-0 shutout of Huron. Moultrie also played DB and helped defend Huron’s solid passing attack.

Owen Sampson, RB, Ida: With Ida trailing 20-14 on the road against Lake Fenton, Sampson answered the call as he rushed for the game-tying touchdown with 6:13 left. He would then catch the game-winning score with 16 seconds remaining to give Ida a thrilling 26-20 win. The sophomore finished a breakout night with 168 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns.
