Milan Schedule Analysis
Time to head up US-23 for the next stop in our Schedule Analysis Series. Milan is coming off of their fourth consecutive playoff appearance. Can they tie the school record of five, which was set between 1996 and 2000? Let’s see if the schedule will allow.
Aug 30 Bridgeport
Sept 6 @ Grosse Ile
Sept 13 SMCC
Sept 20 Flat Rock
Sept 27 @ Riverview
Oct 4 Jefferson
Oct 11 Huron
Oct 18 @ Airport
Oct 25 @ Tecumseh
Gut-Check Game: at Grosse Ile. If Jesse Hoskins’ team wants to establish themselves contender in the Huron League, getting a win against the reigning Huron League Champs on The Island is a great place to start. Big Reds’ fans remember last season when the Red Devils came to town, and left a 42-21 winner.
Trap Game: Flat Rock. The Rams appear to be a sleeper in the Huron League, and the Big Reds get them a week after playing back-to-back games against Grosse Ile and SMCC, and right before a road trip to Riverview. This is not a game the Reds can afford to overlook.
Snoozer: Tecumseh returns to the schedule for the first time since 1999, when they were a conference foe of the Big Reds. The Indians are coming off of a forgettable 2-7 season.
Non-Con Challenge: The out-of-conference slate for Milan is pretty mundane, to put it politely. Bridgeport comes to town in Week 1, but doesn’t really bring that much juice. The Bearcats went 4-5 last season, with one of those losses being a 34-28 defeat by the Big Reds.
Notable: The Week 9 meeting with Tecumseh is the first regular season meeting since 1999, when Milan was in the SEC. Both schools also met in the 2012 Playoffs, where it was the Indians who stunned the Big Reds 26-6 in the District Championship.
Thoughts from Frank: The Big Reds should be contenders in the Huron League once again, but surviving the month of September will be critical. If they can get through unscathed, the October slate is far more manageable, which could set up nicely for being at the top of the conference.

You are correct Gary. Milan got up early on Bridgeport and the coaches got everyone in the game. The game was never in doubt. Bridgeport has a ton of athletes and they play the game the right way. Tecumseh game is a great “back in the day” game that has a lot of history between the two schools. A great game for two communities that are extremely supportive of their young people and the game of football.
Sorry if you all think the games are “mundane”.
By "mundane," I'm referring to the out of conference games lacking juice on the surface. I know that Tecumseh is an old rival, but they have been down for the last few years. Bridgeport is kind of the same deal. Could both teams end up being better? Yes, but that's why they play.
They were within 1 score and tried and onside kick that Milan recovered. If Bridgeport recovers the onside kick, things would have been very interesting. Not sure I would classify that as, never in doubt.

If I remember correctly, the Big Reds were up BIG against Bridgeport last year and early subbing allowed B-port to almost come all the way back. Interesting game.
