Just a little food for thought before things get rolling in August. These may be a little early, but were only a few weeks away from the start of practice. These power ranking are based on the individual schools and the schedule they play. Just because a team has a higher power ranking, it doesn’t mean they would beat a certain school, it is just how they relate overall to their opponents and how far they could possibly go in the playoffs this season. Last year’s record is in parenthesis. If a player is in bold, you can click on their name and see highlights or stats from last season.
SMCC (9-3), the Falcons made it to the regional last year and return a strong core of talented players including All-Blog players Gus Flint and Sam Cousino.
Whiteford (10-1), the Bobcats lost to eventual State Champion Reading in the district final last year. With 47 wins in the last 4 seasons, Whiteford is always a threat for a long playoff run.
Bedford (6-5), the Mules return All-Blog RB Christian Brown and welcome veteran Head Coach Mike Vicars who boast nearly 200 victories in his 27 years as a head coach.
Carlson (8-2), Jack Giarmo (17-4) returns for his 3rd season at Carlson. There is no shortage of talent in Gibraltar with MSU commit Ian Stewart leading the way.
Riverview (7-3), the Pirates boast the largest enrollment in the Huron League and will have talent (Garrett Vineski) and depth on both sides of the ball.
Grosse Ile (9-1), the Red Devils had a dream season last year and will once again have a solid defense led by FNV Defensive Player of the Year, Johnny Blanzy. The Islanders must replace the arm of the departed QB Zak Thompson and the legs of Luke Harwood if they are going to make a run at another Huron League title.
Milan (8-3), the Big Reds will most likely have another strong season behind the head coaching of Jesse Hoskins and the play of EMU commit and FNV Offensive Player of the Year, Tristen Hines along with All-Blog defensive player Evan Furtney.
Ida (8-3), the Streaks have qualified the the playoffs 6 straight years while recording 38 victories in the last 4 seasons. Coach Jeff Potter (16-6) starts his 3rd season as the head coach.
Monroe (7-4), the Trojans are coming off of their best season since 2014, but must replace 4 players that made All-Blog including FNV Player of the Year, Jalen Johnson.
Flat Rock (4-5), the Rams finished a disappointing 2-5 in Huron League play last season while losing 3 of the contest by a combined 10 points. Senior dual-threat QB Ravion Davis is back for coach Buck Reaume. Davis is a literal human highlight film while amassing nearly 2,000 total yards and 20 TD’s.
A lot of SMCC’s success will depend on how they replace three starters on the offensive line. Both guards are gone which is key in their offense. As well as filling the void of Iott at tight end. They liked to run behind him a lot. That is one of the biggest question marks. Another question is who will step up at qb. Blanchett is going to be a big void to fill. Might not of had mind blowing numbers. But he was the key to that offense.
