Now it’s time to head to the banks of the Huron River to look at the New Boston Huron Chiefs. There were a lot of growing pains for the Chiefs in Chad Smith’s first year. Can they get better in Year 2? Let’s look at the schedule.
Aug 29 @ Melvindale
Sept 6 Riverview
Sept 13 @ Jefferson
Sept 20 Airport
Sept 27 @ Grosse Ile
Oct 4 SMCC
Oct 11 @ Milan
Oct 18 @ Flat Rock
Oct 25 Garden City
Gut-Check Game: Riverview. If Year 2 under Smith is going to be better, getting an upset of the Pirates on your home turf would be a nice place to start. The Chiefs put up a fight against the Pirates last season before falling 50-28.
Trap Game: at Jefferson. The Bears may have went 0-9 last season, but lost a hard-fought 16-13 decision to the Chiefs. Now the Chiefs must venture to Marc Cisco Field a week after hosting Riverview.
Snoozer: Melvindale went 2-7 last season, with both wins coming against Taylor (2-7) and Lincoln Park (0-9).
Non-Con Challenge: Garden City makes the drive down Middlebelt Road to close out the regular season. Despite losing 25-14 to the Chiefs last season, the Cougars went 6-4 and made the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
Notable: This will be the first year the Chiefs will play Melvindale since 1996. The Cardinals have won all four meetings with the Chiefs.
Thoughts from Frank: Was last year a blip on the radar for the Chiefs, who had made the playoffs for four straight seasons previously, or a sign of things to come? Weeks 5-7 are a tough stretch, with a home game against SMCC sandwiched between road trips to Grosse Ile and Milan. Improvement can be expected, but making the playoffs just might be too much to ask for.

I saw Huron in 7-on-7 action at Dundee. It's not a stretch to say that they could be the most improved team in the Huron League
Chiefs were quite young last year. They will be a factor in the league.
I agree should be competitive now some players have developed.
