Varsity Athletic Week 6 Players of the Week

Luke Harwood, RB, Grosse Ile. The Red Devils made a big
statement with a 33-14 win over SMCC, and Harwood was the star of the game. The
senior rushed for 238 yards and two scores as the Devils became the first Huron
League team to punch their ticket to the playoffs, and start 6-0 for the first
time since 1997.
Jalen Johnson, RB, Monroe. Johnson only touched the ball
eight times against Bedford, but he made the most of all of them. The running
back racked up 245 offensive yards (148 rushing, TD, 97 receiving, TD) as the
Trojans thrashed the Mules 41-6. It was the first win over Bedford since 2014
for the Trojans.
Clay Sampson, QB, Ida. Already down their leading rusher,
the Blue Streaks turned to their senior quarterback on Friday, and Sampson
answered the call. He led the Blue Streaks in rushing with 129 yards and two
touchdowns as Ida defeated Hudson 26-14 to move to 5-1. It also marked the
first time Ida had won at Hudson’s Thompson Field since 1991.
Brandon, Bryce, and Ian Stewart, RBs and QB, Carlson. Both
Carlson and Allen Park were 4-1 heading into Friday’s showdown in Allen Park.
The Marauders prevailed 47-29 thanks to all three Stewart brothers, as they
combined for 397 rushing yards (Brandon: 186 yards, 3 TDs; Bryce: 132 yards, 2
TDs; Ian: 78 yards, TD) and six touchdowns. Carlson moved to 5-1 and remained
tied for first in the Downriver League with Woodhaven.
Kyle Ott, DB, Dundee. Ott turned in a breakout performance
for the Vikings, as he recorded 11 tackles and two interceptions in a 24-13 win
over Onsted. Ott’s first interception came late in the first half in the end
zone to keep Onsted from tying the score before halftime.
Steffen Dyl and Bryce Bondy, RBs, Airport. Airport had been
known to use their passing game to win games. On Friday, the Jets turned to
their ground game to knock off Flat Rock, as both Bondy and Dyl combined for
182 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. After the Rams scored to go up
21-13, Bondy returned the ensuing kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown. Dyl would
score the go-ahead touchdown with a 61 yard run to the end zone with 3:41 left
to give the Jets a 25-21 win on homecoming night.

  • That Johnson kid from Monroe is an absolute beast. I think Monroe may have found something there.

  • Black Beard-Trust me I know how you feel. If I say too much I’m dumb and need to shut up. Say too little and I need to drink more kool Aid because I was funnier. Sometimes it’s just never good enough.

  • Is it safe to come back out yet? You won’t find any previous posts of mine ever telling Chris and Gary they are worthless. I’ll never say any player is any better or worse than any other player as well. I do give my opinion on what I see Friday nights. Things like: SMCC beat us up front. Milan never adjusted. View’s line looked average. Flat Rock was much better than I expected. Gary, you got it wrong in the power rankings. No Troll, the over/under will not be 100 in the View/Airport game. I welcome the criticism and hammering back on other bloggers is fair game but don’t confuse the idiotic comments on here as something I would post incognito. I appreciate you thinking of me though.

  • @8:17 PM, if you don’t like the blog, you are free not to visit. The rest of us will stay and enjoy it. #petty

  • Too many Riverview players to put on it so no wet aren’t mad
Happens every week take your pick who you’d want up!!!

  • You guys are damn near worthless go get a real job and don’t worry about high school football go pay your stu loans

  • I’m not a Dundee fan , but nice to see some recognition for a defensive player who it sounds like had a great game.
Coaches should not be afraid to nominate linemen or defensive players who make an impact on a game.
Football is the ultimate team sport.
1965 Chicago Bears had the best offensive and defensive player in the NFL, yet they only won a couple of games.
