Local Playoff Pairings

Division 8

Region 4
District 2

Pittsford (7-2) @ Reading (9-0)

Lenawee Christian (8-1) @ Whiteford (9-0)

Chris’s Thoughts: The Bobcats are definitely the favorites in Division 8, but Whiteford @ Reading in the District final could be the state championship game.

Gary’s Thoughts: Interesting district with both Reading and Whiteford.  Probably the best 2 teams in D8.  I like the Bobcat’s chances.

Frank’s Thoughts: The Bobcats kept on trucking to a 9-0 regular season, and a
showdown with the Cougars. However, they could meet someone on their level in
Round 2, as Reading is a likely opponent. The kicker: Reading would host the
game.

Division 7

Region 3
District 2

Sand Creek (6-3) @ SMCC (7-2)

Clinton (7-2) @ Springport (7-2)

Chris’s Thoughts: Falcons have a nice draw in the district. Potential big game in the Regional at undefeated Cassopolis

Gary’s Thoughts: Solid teams in this district. Falcons can’t get caught looking ahead.

Frank’s Thoughts: Playoff
football returns to Navarre Field for the first time since 2015 as the Falcons
host the Aggies. SMCC battles injuries most of the season, but will get key
players back. How will the Falcon defense slow down Sand Creek speedster Alec
Muck?

Division 5

Region 4
District 2

Detroit Osborn (6-3) @ Detroit Denby ( 7-2)

Dearborn Heights Robichaud (6-3) @ Ida (7-2)

Chris’s Thoughts: Opening game is winnable against pass happy, but super fast Robichaud. Huge district rematch looms with the Tars of Detroit Denby.

Gary’s Thoughts: D5 is a gauntlet, I think the Bluestreaks should be happy with these matchups.  Not easy, but winnable.

Frank’s Thoughts: The
Blue Streaks and Bulldogs are familiar foes, having met in the playoffs in 2015
(Ida prevailed 39-30). Ida has won five of their last six, while Robichaud
limps into the postseason on a three game losing streak. A potential rematch
with Detroit Denby awaits should Ida prevail.

Division 4

Region 4
District 2

Chelsea (6-3) @ Grosse Ile (9-0)

Detroit Cody (6-3) @ Milan (7-2)

Chris’s Thoughts: Favorable draw for the local teams, especially playing at home. I’m sure Milan would like another shot at the Islanders. Country Day or Harrison most likely will be waiting in the Regionals.

Gary’s Thoughts: Chelsea is just a bit down this year.  I think both Milan/GI are set up for a rematch.

Frank’s Thoughts: The biggest
challenge for the Chelsea will be slowing down GI’s Luke Harwood, who has been on
fire in the second half of the season. The
Big Reds host the Comets, who will be playing their first game outside of the
city of Detroit this season. A win by Milan could mean a rematch with Grosse
Ile.

Division 3

Region 4
District 2

Trenton (6-3) @ Carlson (8-1)

Riverview (7-2) @ Allen Park (7-2)

Chris’s Thoughts: This district is wide open and any one of the four teams could win it. The winner will be rewarded with a date with Martin Luther King or River Rouge.

Gary’s Thoughts: I wouldn’t be surprised if any of these familiar, back yard foes come out of this district.

Frank’s Thoughts: Allen Park
struggled to stop the run in a loss to Carlson, so this is a favorable matchup
for Riverview. The
Marauders prevailed 35-24 in Week 2, and a win means either a rematch from Week
6 against Allen Park or a rematch from last season’s playoffs against
Riverview.

Division 2

Region 4
District 2

Bedford (5-4) @ Dearborn Heights Crestwood (8-1)

Livonia Franklin (5-4) @ Wyandotte Roosevelt (6-3)

Chris’s Thoughts: Another wide open district. Mules have a definite chance at Crestwood and have seen better teams this season than Franklin and rose felt.

Gary’s Thoughts: Not easy, but I think Bedford should be very happy with this draw. I can see any of the 4 wining.

Frank’s Thoughts: The
Mules squeaked in at 5-4 and draw Crestwood, who is coming off of a loss to
Grosse Ile. Jeff Wood’s team could make hay against a team that was gashed on
the ground by GI.

Division 1

Region 3
District 2

Dearborn  (5-4) @ Belleville (9-0)

Monroe (6-3) @ Woodhaven (8-1)

Chris’s Thoughts: The Trojans got a favorable draw avoiding Belleville in the opener. The Warriors will have a hard time matching Monroe’s athletes, but Woodhaven has a solid program.

Gary’s thoughts: Coin flip game for me in the opener.  Go Trojans!

Frank’s Thoughts: I
expected the Trojans to run into a buzzsaw early, but Woodhaven is a much more
manageable matchup. The reward for the winner is a matchup with Belleville.

  • Oh and one more thing. Remember when you guys picked GI to go 5-4 this year. How'd that work out? So again one game at a time. You never know what's going to happen. AP was suppose to be contenders. Riverview, Milan, and SMCC were suppose to be tops in the HL. Some people believed it and looked ahead. Not so fast my friends! Stay the course HL in the playoffs and good things could happen. Best of Luck. Focus - Focus - Focus!

  • I sense sarcasm toward my comment. Which is well and good. But when you are one and done because you overlooked a team that has at least two players faster than anyone on your team and an OL bigger across the board, and the fact you are still banged up from Friday's game against PNDP, you may want to set your eyes closer to home. Again I said this to all our HL teams. One game at a time. Respect the game, Respect your opponent.

  • 3:55,

Ida would not be going for a repeat as District Champs, but rather their third in four years.

  • Ok Goat we wont' look ahead at who has the best chance to win our Regional. We will just look at who we need to beat this Friday.
