Monroe High 2018 Season Preview and Prediction

The Trojans finished up 2017 with a 4-5 record, missing the playoffs due to a close week 9 defeat to their rivals. Monroe has qualified for the playoffs 4 of the last 7 years and are once again coached by third year head coach, Nick Notario. Coach Notario’s staff includes, Jay Clark, Jody McCollum, Steph Pietzak, Cody Wiley, kyle Reed, Ben Notario and Joe Hammond.

Returning Letter Winners: 18
Offensive Starters Returning: 6
Defensive Starters Returning: 6

Players To Watch: Maleik Linton – QB, Jared Banks – RB, Jalen Johnson – CB, Cole Sulfaro – S, Hayes Brooks – OLB, Cody Scsvanicki – WR, Anthony Harris – LB, Jace Clark – LB, Joe Schnorberger – OL/DL, P.J. Brown – OL/DL, Lance Theisen – DE.

New Players To Watch: Wyatt Head – QB/DB, Thomas Grant – DE/RB, Lucas Ellis – OL, Armando Flores – OL.

Coaches Thoughts: “We are very excited about this season because of the work these kids have put in in the off-season.  We have experience on both sides of the ball and are in year 3 of the new offensive system.  If we take care of the ball on offense, tackle on defense and play together, we should be able to win some games.”

Coaches Outlook: “All roads in the SEC go through Saline and Bedford, until they are knocked out of the top two spots.  Pioneer will be good, Huron will be improved and Skyline is a wildcard.”

FNV Thoughts:  This looks to be Coach Notario’s most talented team in his three years.  There is excitement for this bunch in Trojan land and I can see why.  Winning the SEC is definitely in reach.  Mark your calendars, Sep 28 at Bedford, will be a doozy!  I look for the Trojans to be in contention for the league title and qualify for the playoffs.  Dare I say 9-0 is a possibility?

Gary’s Pick: 7-2
Chris’s Pick: 6-3
Frank’s Pick: 8-1

  • 9-0 not out of the question? Really? Which one of you has been snortin something you shouldn't have been?? The Trojans have never seen a 0 in their right hand column...and probably never will in their lifetime.

  • Hadn't heard that he was out, but he was being counted on. Unfortunately injuries happen and the next man has to step up. The blog wishes him well.

  • What kind of impact does Thomas Grant being out for the season have on this team? From what I saw the kid was a stud.
