Erie Mason Eagles Schedule Analysis

We stay in the LCAA for the next team in the series by Frank. Erie Mason is looking to make the leap with a boatload of talent returning. How does the schedule play out?
Schedule:
Aug 24 @ Summerfield
Aug 31 Britton-Deerfield
Sept 7 @ Hillsdale
Sept 14 @ Hudson
Sept 21 Ida
Sept 28 Brooklyn Columbia Central
Oct 5 @ Blissfield
Oct 12 @ Dundee
Oct 19 Onsted
Gut Check Game: at Summerfield. If Year 2 under Rob Beaudrie is where the Eagles take a big step forward, the season opener against a formidable opponent is the time and place to do it. The last time the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs was 1989. Since then, they have lost six straight meetings by a combined score of 203-88.
Trap Game: When you go 1-8 in the previous season, expectations are low (at least on paper). Week 2 against Britton-Deerfield fits the bill the most, as it took a miracle for the Eagles to earn their only win of the season.
Snoozer: No game really qualifies as a snoozer.
Non-Con Challenge: Summerfield. See above
Notable: Mason is the only of the three LCAA teams we cover who does not have any new opponents on the schedule…They are also one of five teams on the blog who do not have a new opponent.
Final Analysis: The Eagles will have plenty of opportunities to prove that they can take a big step forward. The best of those likely come in Week 5 and 6, as they host LCAA powers Ida and Brooklyn Columbia Central. We’re not saying that the Eagles will pull an upset, but rather that they have the opportunity to prove that they aren’t the same downtrodden team that hasn’t won more than two games since 2005.

Thoughts from Chris: Trying to rebuild in the LCAA is never easy as the Eagles can attest to for over a decade. The difference between this year and many of those years was that there weren’t many winnable games coming into the season. While there may be winnable games on the schedule this season, true success will come down to how the Eagles play on the offensive and defensive lines.

Thoughts from Gary: Mason is looking to take a step forward this year.  At Summerfield in week 1, is a great barometer as to how far they have come in Beaudrie year 2.  BD awaits in week two, which is a very winnable contest. I’ve said previously the LCAA offers no weeks off.  Mason is young, a fast start might carry them forward as they try to make their mark on the LCAA.

  • The Eagles have been the hottest team of the summer with their impressive performances in passing leagues against teams with much more athleticism. There is no love loss (and that is an understatement) between the Eagles and Ida or Dundee so I could see them winning one of those. Here is to a better 2018 season for Mason ~

Aug 24 @ Summerfield- WIN , could be a shootout
Aug 31 Britton-Deerfield - WIN , B.D. is not in a good place football wise
Sept 7 @ Hillsdale- LOSS , the Hornets will be too physical for the Eagles
Sept 14 @ Hudson- LOSS, could be closer than you would think because Hudson loses a ton to graduation
Sept 21 Ida- LOSS , I would love to see a competitive rivalry game but can't convince myself that it will happen this year
Sept 28 Brooklyn Columbia Central- LOSS to the probable conference champions
Oct 5 @ Blissfield- LOSS , Blissfield has too many playmakers to stop
Oct 12 @ Dundee- WIN , this is my upset special. Although Dundee won 72-36 last year, the Vikings couldn't stop Beaudrie. My friends in the coaching world say that Dundee will be small and graduated their best players in the program last year, sorry Vikings but I see Mason stealing one on the road!
Oct 19 Onsted- WIN , home game, riding the momentum of a big win the week before, Mason finishes the season 4-5

Erie has been a hype machine this summer, let's hope they live up to the talk

  • I see Erie Mason beating Summerfield, BD, and Dundee. They will give Ida until eventually getting worn down..

  • I don’t see them winning against Ida, BCC, Hudson,, Onstead or Blissfield. Summerfield a toss up game. Have to play defense to win games in that league against the T.

  • LCAA Champs, 7 on 7 Champions.
    1-8th grade all American
Strongest back field in monroe county..
    Change is coming.

  • That’s going to be a special group right there. Very hard-working and discipline young man.

  • I can’t wait to see them kids play. That’s a special group out there very hard working young man!!!
