We decided to put together a top 10 Huron League Champions over the last 20 years.  This is certainly up for debate and mainly done just for fun.

1) 2014 SMCC

2) 1999 JEFFERSON

3) 2005 SMCC

4) 2004 RIVERVIEW

5) 2010 SMCC

6) 2003 AIRPORT

7) 2017 RIVERVIEW

8) 2009 SMCC

9) 2015 SMCC

10) 2012 Milan

  • We only went back 20 years Darrel. If we had went back further, yes that 94 Bear team would have been near the very top.

  • Not sure how you could not put JHS 1994 State Champions Team on your listing. Their only loss that year was to perennial power Dewitt and that I believe was on the road and a very close fought game.

How does a State Championship team not make your top 10??

  • What about Al Bundy, Polk High 4 touchdowns in state playoff game. The best I have ever heard of.

  • The 02 and 03 Airport teams also dominated the league and lost to the eventual state runner up. It’s tough to pick between the 2 but the 02 team has Cliff Whitehouse and he was the best QB that they have ever had and I’m not talking about athletic ability but leadership and smarts so I’d probably go with the 02 team even though the 03 team was better defensively. The 02 playoff game against DeWitt is still probably the best high school game I’ve ever seen and DeWitt QB Chad Alger is probably the best high school QB I ever watched in person. I love talking about this topic and for the person who said “I didn’t think Airport was allowed to talk about this subject” or whatever I don’t see any Flat Rock, Huron, or Grosse Ile teams on here and I’d put the 02 or 03 Airport team up against anyone on this list and I’d put money on them coming out on top... unfortunately we could never prove that so let’s just have fun taking about it.

  • That’s fair. However 2015 SMCC dominated the HL, lost to 2 state runner-ups and my step son was on the team :)

  • Surprised to see any Airport comments, didn’t think they were allowed to participate on the blog.

  • Yet you put the 2015 C.C. team on here who didn’t even win a playoff game... 02 Airport doesn’t make the list? Can’t argue with the success that catholic central has had but this story no’s of homerism (yeah that might be a word) lol

  • 2012 Milan is on this list. As well as 2003 Airport.

Need to win more than 1 playoff game however if you want to be considered great. 2012 Milan snuck in on this list.

  • 2014 CC was too fast and too talented for any Huron League Team. May not have had the toughest Line but could throw the ball and stop the pass against talented quarterbacks. Something most Huron league teams failed at in the playoffs when it mattered
