Last week Riverview defeated Trenton 34-7 while Carlson came from behind to defeat Huron 29-19. These two teams have not met since 1992 when Carlson was part of the Huron League. Riverview leads the all-time series 10-3.
Riverview’s offense was taylor-made for the rain storm that came through last week against Trenton and wasn’t slowed down. The Pirates rushed for over 400 yards, but should find the sledding a little tougher against the Marauders. Look for the trio of Cam Rogers, Zach Guthrie and Zack Warlick to get the bulk of the carries behind a solid offensive line. The defense has been good all season and is giving up just over 14 ppg. They are led on defense by Tyler Dively, Kyle Naif and Steven Rice.
Carlson struggled to beat Huron last week trailing at one point by a score of 19-7 early in the 3rd. The difference in the game was senior QB Jaylan Franklin (2 TD’s) who left the game in the first half due to an injury, but was able to return after halftime. Franklin will most certainly be the focal point against Riverview along with RB’s Steph Sanders and Brandon Stewart. The Carlson defense will need to be stout in order to stop the Pirate rushing attack and will call upon players like Ian Stewart and Jacob Simons to do just that.
This is a battle of two teams that run the T. There will most likely be limited possessions and the team that controls the clock and limits turnovers will be in great position to win the game. This game certainly has star power in players like Rogers and Franklin and whichever star shines brightest could have a leg up.

Big pay raise for coaches this year at my school. From 3000 to 3500. So if you coach 3 sports you might crack 5 figures. With the hours that I put in, its minimum wage. But my assistants work for less than half of that, so I pay a couple of them out of my pocket. We do this for the love of the game and to give back. Nobody is in it for the money.
This is funny. 850x said that coaches get paid 5 figures to coach. I know coaches that coach football basketball and track and don't make 5 figures combined for those sports.
Hey 6:44, your facility was great! A wonderful venue for the View to run wild....
Hammer time riverview 38-14 over carlson
I'd be interested in hearing from Huron and Trenton players. Both of those squads have played both of tonight's teams and would be able to give a better assessment of strengths and weaknesses. Come on Chief's and Trojan's players, what say you about tonight's match up? BTW, no homering for your respective conference reps. Give a players, honest opinion.
The redistricting actually hurts Edsel Ford. The redistricting to Edsel means they are getting the uber poor immigrants from the Southend. Most don't know any sports other than maybe soccer. Quite frankly for many of them, they are too busy learning the language and adjusting to life in the US instead of playing sports This means a windfall for Dearborn and Fordson as they will begin to get more students from other areas of the city. I may be wrong on the details, but from what I heard, this isn't helping Edsel.
It’s game day let’s go BUCS
It depends on who you schedule in the 2 non league games. The 8 Huron league teams have 16 non league games. This year, 12 of those games were against playoff teams. One of the non playoff teams was against U of D Jesuit. Typically the HL does not schuledule cupcakes to get to 6 wins.
Edsel Ford a playoff team this year also joins the Downriver league next year. The rumor also is that Dearborn is redestricting which will give Edsel more kids-Could be a tough opponent definitely not a bye week like the Kennedy game had become.
just a thought or question -The downriver league has no non league openers or closers-these coaches would die to name their first and last game like the Huron League teams basically due.
U win those 2 games and realistically u have to now only win 3 of 7 games to get in playoffs.
Thoughts Gary and Chris or whomever?
@7:30 you are right these coaches give up their time to take a paid position to coach. Some of these positions pay 5 figures. Blogs are a place to express opinions. What part of that are you having trouble with. As for calling me out about coaching and raising young men. I have coached football & baseball. Have two kids playing college athletics on scholarship.
