Trenton @ Riverview Friday 7 pm

Riverview (8-1) will host the Trenton (5-4) Trojans on Friday Night in the MHSAA Division 3 State Playoffs. This is a game between neighboring cities and this is a rivalry that is rare for schools that aren’t in the same league although it is mostly in other sports. Trenton has qualified for the playoffs for a 4th straight season and has a relatively young team. Riverview has qualified for the playoffs for the 4th time in the last 5 years. These two teams haven’t played in a decade. Trenton leads the all-time series 15-10.

The Trojans are coached by MHSFCA Hall of Fame Coach Bob Czarnecki. Trenton finished in a tie for 4th place in the Downriver league this season. The Trojans are led by junior QB Jay Solano. He is joined in the backfield by junior RB Evan Adams and has some receiving threats in seniors Will Mrla and Evan Mercure. The offensive line is anchored by Matt Kibby and Brendan McLaughlin. On defense, Trenton is led by junior LB’s Sam Suave and Trae Rickman. Senior DT Brandon Anderson anchors the defensive line while Gabe Doree leads the secondary.

Riverview has enjoyed their best regular season since 2011 and won the Huron League for the first time since 2004. Junior QB Dominic Wood leads the Pirate T offense which features numerous ball carriers. The Pirates have rushed for over 3,400 yards and have thrown the ball just 20 times all season. Senior Cam Rogers leads the ground game with over 1,000 yards and 16 TD’s. Seniors Zach Warlick and Zach Guthrie see numerous carries per game. Guthrie has 874 yards on the season to go with 8 TD’s. Senior TE Cas Sarnaki teams with offensive linemen Will Lezotte, Cameron Pruitt and Nathan Maher to pave the way for the Pirates running game. Leading the way on defense for the Pirates are Tyler Dively, Joe Johnson, Jack Demare, Steven Rice, Kyle Naif and Brannon Kincaid.

Don’t let the records fool you. While Trenton is young, they still have a solid team and are well coached. Trenton will be prepared for the T of Riverview. The Pirates are hitting on all cylinders, but Trenton is a team that is a lot like Flat Rock who handed Riverview their only loss of the season in week 2. This will be a close hard fought game between two Downriver schools who should play each other every year in football

*Look for our Week 1 Playoff video picks later tonight*
