Flat Rock enters the 2017 season on an upswing after finishing the 2016 season with a 4-5 record and a late season victory over arch-rival Huron. Buck Reaume is entering his 3rd season in charge of a Ram team that boast 23 returning letter winners that includes 16 starters.
Senior QB Jacob Dotson will lead the Ram offense for the 2nd consecutive season and will benefit from an offensive line that includes all 5 starters returning. Senior guards Ryan Myre and Sameer Tayeb will anchor an active line. Look for senior RB Sage Daniels to get a bulk of the carries, but watch out for newcomer Cainen Spencer who will provide the Rams with a burst of speed. Senior Blake Montiy will be the tight end.
On defense the Rams will line up one of the best defensive players in the Huron League with 4 year starter Mason Hamilton. He will be joined on the defensive line by senior DE Conner Neal and junior DT Corey Fitzhugh. Junior linebackers Michael Simons and Dustin Modi will team with Tayeb to form a solid linebacking corp. Seniors D.J. Gosset and A.J. Harbin will lead the secondary.
Coaches’ Outlook: “The league will be very competitive, as it always is. There is no off week in our league. I think match ups play a big role in our league and we need to do a better job than we did last year.”
Flat Rock is poised to have a big season this year and seems to have an attitude of “playoffs or bust”. The Rams have a huge game in week 1 as they open with Class A Garden City, who expects to have a good year. The first 4 weeks will let the Rams know where they stand, they play Riverview, Milan and SMCC in consecutive weeks following the opener. They lost all 3 of those games last year while being outscored 111-37.
