Dundee enters the 2017 season under Head Coach Kyle McElvany with high hopes. The Vikings finished at 4-5 last season but return 7 starters on offense and 8 on defense. Dundee hasn’t qualified for the playoffs since 2012 and haven’t won a league title since 1992.
On the offensive side of the ball the Vikings return their entire backfield which includes senior QB Cole Salenbien and senior RB’s Ben Miller, Austin Gabriel, and George Salenbien. The offensive line includes senior Calen Lewis along with junior Thomas Zonca. Junior Christian Cosner is one of the tight ends.
On defense, Dundee should have one of the best players in the area in linebacker Miller. Senior DE Kyle Reinhart will team with junior DT Austin Schultz (no relation to me) to give the Vikings a solid defensive front. Junior Cal McAvoy teams with Miller at the linebacker position, while senior Tim Vann Jr. leads the secondary. Look for sophomore Luke Williams and senior Brian Fox to provide depth for the defense.
Coaches’ Thoughts: “We are excited about this group we will have this year. The majority of our seniors were with us 3 years ago when our staff arrived at Dundee and it’s been fun to watch their growth”.
This could be a great year for Dundee. This is the 3rd year in McElvany’s system. The Vikings put very good football players on the field at every position. If there is one knock on the Vikings it may be a lack of team speed, but they make up for that by being a cerebral team. If Dundee protects the ball, this could be the Vikings best season since 2011.
