SMCC @ Grosse Ile

Be sure to check out the podcast. SMCC @ Grosse Ile

SMCC (2-2) is coming off of a 7-6 home loss to Huron while Grosse Ile (4-0) continued their undefeated season with a 49-20 victory over Flat Rock. The Falcons won the game last year in Monroe by a score of 35-7 and lead the all-time series 40-14-2.

SMCC will look to rebound this week by using their punishing ground game against perhaps the best rushing defense in the league. Junior Collin Woolford and senior Kevin LaPrad are a threat to go the distance every time they touch the ball. Defensively, the Falcons have been solid most weeks and will match up with a very capable Red Devil ground game.

Grosse Ile continues their improbable march to an undefeated season. The Red Devils rushed for over 400 yards against Flat Rock last week and rely on the power running of seniors Andrew Vollmerhausen and Josh Moskall. The defense has been stout against the run all season as senior Dominic Trembly anchors a very good Red Devil defensive line.

This ought to be a great match up between two teams who like to run the ball. The game could be decided through the air as senior WR Justin Moores against the Falcon secondary is a key match up to watch. A win here for the Islanders could set up an undefeated showdown against Milan next week, but don’t count out the defending league champs just yet. • You will be surprised 3:19. GI will be extremely tough on your D. They may not get 49, but I bet they get in the 30's. Too many weapons.

  • playoff point ranks and a true ranking by people in the know, there are plenty, are two totally different things. Many teams have higher PP than Muskegon for instance, but maybe only 1 or 2 belong on the same field. What I'm saying is. You get very little credit for losing to a great team. SMCC will get about 1 point for losing to which will be an undefeated PW. on the same hand if you beat a scrub team, you get maybe 20 points. So in other words. Don't use the MHSAA for rankings. I will put out a ranking for you later in all applicable divisions. GI will be ranked and well as CC.

  • They aren't true rankings, but they are the system that the MHSAA uses for the playoffs. The AP Poll is done by writers who many times haven't even seen the teams play. Neither one is wrong, just as, neither is right.

  • SMCC "run" of the Huron League is over GI will "pass" away with this one. while SMCC offense will be held to under 14 pts again this week. The Devils D is much improved this year and their OC is second to none! GI wins the game and the league this year.

  • 1:49, not sure what you looking at. Go on MHSAA website, look at rankings. They are all ranked according to points from the caliber of their wins. Points don't lie. GI and Milan and IDA are all ranked in the Top 10.

    • Those MHSAA "rankings" aren't true rankings. It gives too much penalty for teams with losses. Even if you the lost to the #1 team in D1. There is no subjectivity. You can't base anything off those.

  • 11:29 I agree this SMCC team is a little soft.. If they would bring it they would be undefeated.. In every game they loss they had their chances to win.. If they bring it they will beat GI..

  • GI will outplay CC on both sides of the ball.
The Devils have too many offensive weapons for the Falcons to match up and the GI D Line will blowup the CC backfield.
