Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Grosse Ile’s defense is extremely fast and physical.

Did I really see a double reverse, double pass for a TD Friday night?

Bear down!

Do they still play for the jug?

I could be spot on with my SMCC preseason prediction.

Nine in the box?

The injury bug sux.

Are people still sleeping on the Jets?

Should be a huge crowd at Milan on Friday.

Every coach and player work hard, some coaches and players work harder than others.

Why would any coach care what I think?

I need to get out and see my alma mater.

Two best coaches in the league will meet on Friday.

Which team has the best chance of winning out, Jefferson or Flat Rock?

I still think we may have a tie for the league title this year.

I plan on doing video on Saturday mornings next year.

On Wisconsin!

  • Well said, Yo Mamma. I am familiar with youth football and the CYO in our area as well and you are absolutely right. CYO was a great thing, unfortunately, many years later other programs have finally caught on and have evened the bar.

Not so much in football. but travel sports and AAU are ruining numbers in the other sports as well. Baseball, softball, etc.

    Good Luck out there.

  • Things are in place for some improvements to the blog next season. I believe the blog is expanding to include all of Monroe County. Adding a Monroe county high school football show on YouTube. We love our sponsors. And if anyone is looking to potentially increase their foot traffic, let Chris know for next season. Its going to be big.

  • SMCC fan here. What would you like us to say or do? Most of the time, we can talk. This year we can't. I, for one, am not a delusional fan. I like to give credit where credit is due, and I call it like I see it. When you talk knowing that your team can't back it up, you end up looking foolish.
I think it is too soon to tell if Kipf is good or not. It seems to me that while the youth football leagues around the county are getting stronger, the Monroe CYO is getting weaker. And, with that being the main feeder program for SMCC, the Falcons may be struggling in the future as well. The 3 main Monroe city catholic schools have merged and the individual parishes have been having a hard time getting enough kids to field their own teams. Even St. Charles in Newport has had fewer kids go out for football. Their team always had kids from St. Anne, St. Patrick's, and St.Mary Rockwood coming to play for them. Is it possible that the Soccer moms are winning the war? I don't know
I also think that this season, we are definitely doing less "preying", so we need more "praying". Hold your heads high, Falcons. Play hard, give it everything you've got, and always to the last whistle.

    • You are correct, GI does have school of choice, however, it is limited. Usually 10-15 students per year, and only students through middle school. So, school of choice, yes, but not with the intention of gaining better athletes.

  • Grosse Ile is school of choice but they make you pay if you come from off island. all players on the GI team except 1, grew up together on Grosse Ile and have played football together since they were 8 years old in little league.

  • Chris, if you had the equipment, a live podcast of the game would really bring you in some sponsorship $$. Bring on a guest commentator. Every Huron League blogger at another game would have their phones to their ears.

  • The flat rock coaching staff missed their calling. They should have all be magicians, they made all the airport fans disappear from the blog!
