Airport 2016 Preview

Airport is coming off a season that saw them finish 1-8, but 4th year head coach Chad Baas should have reason for optimism. The Jets have had 3 straight losing seasons, but return several starters especially on the defensive side of the ball.

The Jet offense returns 5 starters. Aaron Frederick and Thomas Shinevarre are offensive lineman that will look to pave the way for returning RB’s Mike Foor and Justin Goretski. Sophomore Bryce Bondy could supply a spark to the Airport offense after starring on the reserve team a year ago.

Airport boasts 8 returning defensive starters and are led by senior Brent Mossburg. All four starters return on the defensive line and are led by seniors Hunter Cleland and Dalton Bates. Juniors Logan Mays and Matt Ashby give the Jets one of the best front fours in the league.

Airport boast a large roster and have lots of experience returning and that should result in more wins. The Jets open on the road Friday at Dundee then will host Huron in week 2. Prediction: 3-4 League, 5-4 Overall

  • It's a new season. You couldn't ask for a better group of people to influence our kids. No matter your thought on coaching. I'd like to say thanks for your dedication. It's also a great group of kids. Go Jets

  • I would have to think the Mossberg hater is from the past. I don't see or hear many people bad talk the program (those that are there now anyways).

  • I think Moss is a good coach. He is very passionate. Heck, I just look to his girls basketball team. They play hard, their passionate and they are getting better through out the entire program. From a football standpoint, I know for a fact he has the X's & O's down and the passion is there and nobody loves Airport more than Daryl. I promise you that. Airport just hasn't had the talent the last 3 or 4 seasons. It is getting better now. There are some very good athletes on that team. If I may add this point. Don't be one of those people that get in the way of your programs success. If you are saying anything to your kid other than " I love watching you play", then you are doing a disservice to your own kid and the program. Be a program supporter, not one that tears it down. I remember sitting at a Huron game about 10 years ago when Flat Rock was playing in New Boston. I was forced to sit on the Huron side because the visitor side was packed. I had to listen to the Huron people rip the coaches and saying stuff like back when I played at Huron we..... I thought to myself, man Huron has never had any success, what the hell are you talking about? So I will say this, I know there are a lot of born and bred Airport people with kids on that team. Remember this, none of you ever won a thing in football. Your program success started in 1998. Support your kids, your coaches, your program and your school.

  • Somebody really doesn't like D moss.....sounds like a person who is really close or just far far way causing friction does a lot of good hey? Let's go Jets live in the moment not in the past whether it was the good times or bad times no one really cares if you won or lost 15 years ago it's gone it's about our team now it's Dundee now beat them and then move on next up

  • Play calling has been the issue the last 4 years, I've talked to players that played during the defensive coordinator change, and the whole defense has been changed and they were told this defense would be better..... I'm not so sure.

  • Before people dog on the staff, have an idea of what you're talking about first...mossburg calls the defense, he played lb at toledo under Saban, been coaching for 20 years at flat rock monroe and now airport he knows his stuff, Redmond called baas on of smartest players he's ever coached he knows his stuff, line coach learned under Dave reed who coached line for Redmond since ww2 he knows his stuff...they've had no talent no size nothing for 4 straight Classes u can't win when ur backs run 5.2 40s or lineman are 170 lbs, these guys would look like the staff at alabama with milan talent cc talent riverview and huron talent...I'm an airport fan I go to multiple games every year played for Redmond and good teams and can say we'd whip these past airport teams not bc of talent but bc the "talent" has been laughable

    • Exactly, being a good player under a good coach or the smartest player doesn't mean you can coach. Not everyone can coach. We can all think of many great players who have been bad coaches. A good coach not only knows the game, but they can teach the game . They can manage a game and they can manage a team .

  • If Redmond was the coach over the last 3 years, AP wins at least 8 more games over that period. Do I think Redmond is a great coach. No I don't. But he is a good coach and knows how to run a system and call plays.
