Huron @ Trenton

Huron (5-4) is coming off of a 56-18 thrashing of Summit Academy while Trenton (8-1) beat Taylor Kennedy 49-0 to win a share of the Downriver League crown. These two teams have only met once in school history. The Chiefs beat the Trojans in last season’s District Final 44-27.

Huron expected to have a better season and was fortunate to make the playoffs at 5-4. The Chiefs chances to win rely on the health of  QB Matt Hartwick. The senior has thrown for over 1,100 yards and has rushed for nearly 800 while accounting for 17 TD’s. He missed last week’s game with a broken hand. Senior RB Jacob Fryer has rushed for 752 yards and 8 TD’s. The offensive line is led by senior Dale Midkiff. The 6-6 285 lb OT has had an outstanding season. The defense is led by junior LB Nik Becker and senior DE Jacon Davis. Junior kicker/punter Hunter Morse is a valuable resource and has hit FG’s this season of 48 and 49 yards.

Trenton is led by a senior Pat Czarnecki. The athletic QB has thrown for over 1,000 yards and has rushed for 800 while accounting for 19 TD’s. Flat Rock transfer Dontel Hampton has proved to be a valuable resource for the Trojans. The junior has rushed for 342 yards and has caught 21 passes for 426 yards while scoring 11 TD’s this season He also contributes on defense as he has recorded 42 tackles and 1 Int. Senior Loren Sauve leads the Trojans in tackles along with junior Connor Charping.

This could be a good game. The QB’s are fun to watch and are clones of each other. Trenton has a very good team capable of making a run in the playoffs. Huron has underachieved all season and this could be the game that the Chiefs have been waiting for all year. Pick: Trenton 34 Huron 24

  • Huron would have had a very good shot at this game if the team and coaches hadn't given up before the week ever started.

  • You're all underestimating Trenton, they actually can play defense this year, it will be a long day for Huron

  • So FR should rally against a fellow league team who is in the playoffs? That makes sense. If it were FR in the playoffs, you'd get Major support from your friends down the river. Trenton and Dontelle have no meaning to Huron; only Flat Rock. But root for who you want! Lol

  • SMCC throttled Trenton in their scrimmage this year, and had a tougher time with Huron. Although it might have been because it was early in he year my gut says that Huron will be able to pull this game out if Hartwick plays. I see another Huron Vs Riverview matchup this year.

  • Last year's game was very entertaining to watch. I would expect this years to be almost as good. That sucks about Hartwick, hope he is good to go for Friday night. EM

  • Win or lose, this game is icing on the cake for Huron. I do like their chances, but at Trenton and with Trenton wanting to prove something after last years rainfest, I think Trenton has the advantage. Time to pull all the plugs and for Huron to find a little more defense if they want a chance to play another game after Friday.
