Clinton @ SMCC

Clinton (9-0) defeated Whiteford last week 36-18 while SMCC (8-1) fell to Lansing Catholic Central 35-10. These two teams met last year with the Falcons prevailing 50-15. The Redskins have never beaten SMCC.

Clinton has only had one close game all season. That was week one 20-19 win over Manchester. Clinton is led by senior RB Matthew Sexton. Sexton is a burner who has rushed for over 1,500 yards and 25 TD’s. He is joined in the backfield by fellow senior Noah Poore. Poore missed the first four games of the season and has rushed for 459 yards and 5 TD’s the last five weeks. The defense is led by senior DE Ken Deshano and senior DT David Chantelois.

The SMCC offense is led by seniors Austin Burger and Justin Carrabino. Junior Kevin LaPrad will get some carries as well. Seniors Mitchell Poupard and Hunter Coombe anchor the offensive line. The defense is led by senior Riley Woolford and junior Justin LaPlante. Senior kicker Phillip Lehman has become a real weapon for the Falcons this season.

This should be a good game. I’m sure Clinton wished this game was being played at home. Last season was a blowout, but that shouldn’t be the case this year. Pick: SMCC 40 Clinton 27

  • There is no question Milan got a great draw. You still have to play. Every team will lose to another team sooner or later that's not quite as good. The better team does not always win. Milan knows this with the 2 loses they have. Milan is better than Marshall, but lost, SMCC played better than we did, and beat us. No shame, just some days it's not your day. So the case last night. All good though. There is much respect from the whole league toward SMCC, they have a great program. I feel bad for all the huron teams that lost. Wanted our league to make a statement.

  • #9dad I know 3 HL teams who did not win a pre-district and you said regional..Bo knows football but idk bout you. Milan win when they should but equal or comparative you lose. Gaurantee that district next week..dbl dare ya..IJ

    • Dude I'm not a mind reader nor can I tell the future. But what I can tell you is all 4 Huron teams that made the playoffs went out Friday night and played to their best ability. 3 teams came up short, 1 did not. Can't ask for nothing else.
As for Milan against Denby, all I can say is Milan will come prepared, ready to play and they will do everything in their power to win that game. I personally think Milan will play for the Region, I have been wrong before and they may not. But they won't just lay down and quit.
So there, there is your double dare answer. Sorry your team lost. Maybe next year. Maybe.

  • Like I said league is down compared to other years. One team left. The one that had the easiest district based on team schedules of opponents. Just facts, not hate. I'm a SMCC fan and facts are facts. It all came to light when we lost to a very average Clinton team that p,ads in a weak conference. That said Clinton played hard and deserved the win. Congrats to them. I hope Milan can continue to represent our league and carry the torch. Good Luck!

  • I think the Huron league has 3 teams in the playoffs that can win the region in each division they play in. I don't know if all will win their region, but I do know that they will give it one hell of a shot!
Maybe the league is a so called down a bit, but you still have to play, still have to go out and give it all you got. And for the 4 teams from the Huron league that are in the playoffs, go out tonight and make your school proud. Use all the haters negitive words to fuel your game. Good luck to all.

  • Hater?? Really. I say something realistic and not insulting in any way, I'm a hater. Ok, whatever. If you jump to being hated that easy, you must be used to it.

Huron league is great, fun football to watch. Just not as good of teams this year.
    It is what it is.

I guess exposed was not a good word. The league has no real secrets to expose much of anything.

  • Exactly. It probably will not happen. We competed better with the Downriver League better last year than we will this year.

Biggest thing is SMCC is our league champ. They crushed many people in our league and they are not nearly as good as last year. Not a big deal, not arguing, it happens. Everything cycles, even the league as a whole. Sounds like some pretty good JV teams coming up, so perhaps the league will get strong again in the next few years.

  • Exposed? So you expect the 3rd place team in the Huron League to beat the Co-Champ of the Downriver League? You also expect a team that tied for 4th in the Huron League to beat another Co-Champ of the Downriver League?

I would say that Huron, SMCC and GI are down from last season. Everyone else is better, except Airport who is probably the same.
