SMCC (8-0) is coming off of a 47-7 victory over Jefferson while LCC (8-0) beat Detroit Community 48-6. The Falcons won last years game 49-20.
SMCC steamrolled through the Huron League schedule this year. This week 9 match up may provide the toughest test of the year thus far. The Falcon defense will be challenged by a team that throws the ball a lot, but is able to run the ball as well.
The Cougars are led by 6-7, 235 lb QB Tony Poljan. The junior has thrown for over 1700 yards and rushed for nearly 700 yards while accounting for 33 TD’s. In LCC’s closest game of the year, a 34-20 victory over Ionia he threw for 282 yards and 3 TD’s while rushing for another 238 and a TD.
The Cougars may remind many Falcon faithful of the teams the they faced at Ford Field back in 2009 and 2010. This team is a lot like Monatgue and Ithaca, they all had Division I QB prospects although Poljan is most likely to play DI basketball. Prediction: SMCC 31 LCC 27

when teams are tied in enrollment, the team with the higher playoff points is above the other.
2:14 pm : Battle Creek Pennfield? When has LCC played them?? Doesn't show them playing this year at all. If there was a scrimmage or something, BC Pennfield is 2-6 this year, which is not a fair comparison to how SMCC runs the offense.
2:17 pm : I wasn't saying that LCC was necessarily smaller than the LCC, but there's generally a better chance when playing teams with a smaller enrollment to go against smaller players. That being said, SMCC is used to playing against larger teams, so not a negative.
2:26 pm : I don't think they shift on playoff points? I'm not positive, but that seems highly immoral. I see JLC and SMCC in the same division, either 5 or 6.
2:41 pm : You're absolutely correct, I was wrong in my assumption that this game does not matter. I didn't take into account the certainty of an early meeting with JLC. Looking at the potential pairings thus far, it does hold some significance. However, to clarify, I'm glad SMCC put themselves in a situation like this. Even if they do lose, they're preparing against a very solid team, which is better than destroying some weak team right before the playoffs. Sorry for the mistake I wrote before.
An unfamiliar run offense is much easier to adjust to than an unfamiliar passing offense. SMCC primarily runs and even if SMCC is successful at first, LCC will make adjustments. It will take a few prayers tonight to beat LCC.
I look for a score similar to JV game. You never know though.
Good luck tonight SMCC.

the outcome of this game does matter... it means 3 home games vice 2. We would have Beat Livonia last year if we played them at Navarre.
....aaaand the team with the higher playoff points will be the team that goes up, if one does, between JLC and SMCC. They both don't have to.. it can be one or the other. So... if SMCC wins tonight they would be the team to go up in indeed they do. If they lose it would be JLC. However both could stay in 6. Tons of variaBles, too many to count at this poiNt. stay tuned,
tons of flaws in both those long comments.. I wont go into them all.. but please trust that D6 is NOT tougher then D5. that is a silly comment and an uneducated one.
LCC is just as big as any huron league team. trust me on this.
Battle creek pennfield runs the same exact offense as CC. LCC handled them easy
O9:49 and 10:01. Well said guys.
I like the modest confidence.
That is cool.
Good Luck !

No way on MSU though.
Couple things:
1) Give huge credit to Giarmo for scheduling LCC. Back in 2009/2010, CC saw some D1 talent in ATH Tony Lippett when he was with Detroit Crockett(doing crazy things for MSU this year) as well as the two college QBs in Kater and Niznak. Giarmo must've reasoned that at a certain point in the playoffs, you have to be able to handle this talent, even in D5/D6, and he found a team that's perfect to give them a test run in LCC. (Note, Former LCC QB Cooper starts over Kater at CMU as a sophomore)
2) SMCC, in my opinion, has a HUGE advantage offensively here. The Huron League sees SMCC every year, knows their offense, scheme, tradition, etc, yet generally has a rough time stopping it. Given that these schools have this experience advantage, they also have a size advantage. When you have more kids at a school, you generally have larger kids on the line, which most of the rest of the HL has had all year compared to SMCC. That isn't to say that the LCC lineman will be smaller, but it's more likely. While LCC saw SMCC once (last year), it doesn't compare to the years of experience the rest of the HL has.
3) The outcome of this game does not matter. I say this because of the invaluable information to be gathered from the film. Obviously a win would be nice, but losing would put them at 8-1, a ton of playoff points to ensure home-field advantage already, and an already pretty scary SMCC team thirsty for blood going into the playoffs. I don't know many teams that would want to play SMCC after that.
All in all, I don't see LCC stopping SMCCs offense, they provide too many issues for a team that has seen them quite seldomly. This may turn out to be a downfall for SMCC, though, as you want to keep the ball out of the hands of the LCC QB for as long as possible, and scoring quickly does not help there.
I'm predicting SMCC to be up 28-14 at halftime, Giarmo and crew will make proper adjustments, which they are usually excellent at, and finish the game 49-21.
You can say that 49-21 is a pretty confident score, but SMCC has proved a lot of people wrong thus far, maybe 1 more isn't all that crazy. :)
