  • OK, Milan fans. Most of you have done a good job of taking your medicine. We should expect some celebrating by others now that the streak is over. Now, on to the game:

First, congrats to Riverview for the win under adverse situations. Normally, the long bus ride can be a factor. The Pirates had to travel twice and they came to play both days. They used their size advantage in the trenches well and also won the composure battle. Their power running and short passing game was very effective--especially in the 1st quarter to set the tone and in the 4th quarter when they needed to play keepaway.

Now, to my Big Reds: small and young is a tough combination to overcome, but small, young and dumb is just about insurmountable. The personal fouls have to stop, and to have two against your defense while your opponent is trying to run out the clock is backbreaking.

Medvecz's growing pains continue to be on display. Losing a fumble to the turf monster with the game on the line was bad, but his pick-6 early on Saturday was even uglier. Apparently, Medvecz was confused on who his X receiver was (O-Coach Ward had a very vocal reaction with E.J.) and ended up throwing to the left flat, occupied only by Pirate defenders. QB in Milan's offense is a very demanding position. I believe that Medvecz will improve, and the coaches have taken him off of defense so that he can focus on the offensive side of the ball, but he's just not there yet.

Milan can't hang the loss on just one player, though. Even little things like substitutions and lining up right were an issue both days. Some players seemed flat or scared to lose, while other players looked like they were overcompensating a bit, trying to fire up the team.

The season's far from over, but as I've mentioned before, Milan has a lot of work to do to turn things in the right direction. I'll be at the rest of the games, and I hope the fans will continue to support the team. Let's travel in numbers to Jefferson! On, oh Milan!

  • Jefferson is 0-2 but has the best pass offense in the league? Hmmmmm sounds like they plan on playing from behind a lot. Hope it works out for them but a lot can go wrong when you sling it around too much.

  • Jefferson has some work to do. Passing wasn't bad, but many fundamental mistakes elsewhere cost them the game. Defensive line over pursues all the time. Airport ran same play 3 times for a touchdown. DOES ANYONE RECONGNIZE THIS!! O line gets stood up all the time, no driving the defense back. Therefore no run game. I could go on. Lets go Bears, you have a lot of talent, put the best kids on the field, no production, they sit.

Thanks to all the good Airport folks who helped us all to shelter as the storm arrived. It was very bad in Carleton.

  • "Without those penalties it would of been a different game"

If a spaceship landed on the field it would have been a different game too. But it didn't. So stop making excuses. Milan Lost. Riverview won. Get over it.

    • That just might be the "Comment of the Week." I laughed pretty hard and even read it to my daughter and laughed again!

  • From a Milan fan who went to every varsity game in the last few years...

Congrats to Riverview. They are in the running for the league championship.

This is not the Milan team of the past two seasons for sure.

They have some potential and some athletes, but this year's Milan team looks to be a few games away from being good, as in executing the offense without mistakes.

Perhaps their schedule will help them, but a well-executed offense will give their defense problems on any week.

It makes for some great league match-ups in the coming weeks.

Now we'll see what they are made of...

    • Rub it in all you want. Your team will never go 2 years straight with out a league loss. It happens. We have a lot of football left.

  • Jefferson may have the best passing game in the league. Junior QB Justin Kull has a great arm and their recievers may also be the best In the league. liporato came up big in the second half with 5 receptions and Fiala (Junior) was dominant in the 1st half (played on Friday) with 5 receptions as well. Wilkens also came up with two passes. They spread it out well. If they can get a run game look out

  • Coming from a jets parent this game had several questionable calls that went in our favor, Jefferson put up a good fight. Good work by both teams!
