Riverview is fresh off of a solid season that saw a school record for points in a season in route to a 7-2 regular season and a playoff birth. The Pirates welcome new coach Derek McLaughlin as veteran coach Jeff Stergalas retired from coaching to focus on his AD duties.
Offensively, Riverview must replace their two headed monster at RB in the departed Josh Smith and Marcus Samuels. The two combined for nearly 3,000 all purpose yards and 45 TD’s. Senior Drew Kroll is back at QB and will lead an offense that is likely to be more diverse than a year ago. He will throw the ball to senior wideout Nolan Glime. The offensive line is led by senior Adam Borgert. Look for senior RB Austin Ostrowski to be effective running the ball this season.
If the Pirates are to stay in the upper echelon of the Huron League this season it may have to come from the defensive side of the ball. The maroon and gold are led by one of the best LB in the league in junior Tyler Chase. Senior Steve Pinkava is likely to be a leader at DE.
This is a season that could go either way for the Pirates. They must find an identity early under their new coach. Throughout the years Riverview has been known for a punishing rush offense and a physical defense. If the Pirates play defense they could win 6 or 7 games. If not, it could be a long season. Prediction: 4-5
