Huron League Sports

At the request of a reader. I am going to give people an opportunity to discuss other sports on the blog during the winter and spring. Maybe this will awaken the blog for a bit.

Guess I will throw a few things out there for people to discuss.

Looks like it is a one horse race in boy’s basketball. Nobody will catch Milan.

Big showdown this week in wrestling when Jefferson and Huron meet up.

Looks like Flat Rock and Grosse Ile are the class of the league in girl’s basketball, but Huron and Airport might have something to say about that.

In boy’s bowling it looks like Huron has the best team in the league.

I’m not so sure about girl’s bowling , but I’m guessing Flat Rock is the team to beat.

  • I know I'm going to get heckled, but the sport I like the most outside of my son's playing football is girls softball. It's a better, pure game than boys baseball. More exciting and faster, doesn't take 3 hrs. to play either.

If you want to talk about bad fan activity from parents, go to a softball game. They are ruthless. In fact I have had a great idea for a reality show. Instead of Dance Moms, which my wife and daughter watch religously, the drama of Softball Dad's would be 10 times worse. Those people are NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The 1st half of Huron league basketball is in and while the varsity level has fallen into place, the JV offers a lot of excitement. Milan has 1 league loss to SMCC. FR has 1 league loss to Milan. SMCC has 3 losses to GI, Huron and FR. Airport has 3 losses to SMCC, FR and Milan. FR beat GI in overtime. GI beat SMCC in overtime and in the FR/SMCC game was decided by two points and came down to a last second 3 point attempt that was an "in and out" shot.

  • Riverview is really average. They had the best team in the league and did nothing with it. They play no one and it Shows. Summit and Crestwood????? That's sad. The smith kid was special and had a monster line on both sides with good skill kids. Very poorly coached and will continue to lose to teams with less talent. Milan beat them at their place with 25 guys. Gross Isle scored 43 with 23 guys and without Mitrika..... You need all the transfers you can get.

  • Thank you for chiming in. That is exactly how it works. Many kids think they can play D2 then realize they need to go NAIA or D3. Then your talking good grades and high ACT scores to get solid money to be able to play at those expensive private schools.

  • What you see on tv is a chosen few athletes. Most kids that are being recruited won't sign until weeks, maybe months down the road. If a kid is being recruited by a D2 or D3,NAIA school it will be March or April maybe before they sign.

  • You obviously don't know how the process works. If Kanitz wants to play football somewhere, he will.

    • Chris, you must have extensive knowledge on the process from kids that you've coached that have been recruited right? Watching national signing day on ESPN doesn't make you an expert on the process either.
