Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Does Milan reload?

SMCC looks like they will be really good next year

Mitroka?

Go Green!

I think maybe Riverview graduates too much to contend.

Does Huron ever get over the hump?

Is this the end for Airport?

Go White!

Will Jefferson turn it around?

Does Flat Rock declare independence for a while?

Does the league stop them from doing so?

Do JV records determine future success?

Same Ole Lions!

  • Huron's caps the open enrollment. Their increase is strictly due to population increase. The elementary schools have been full for years.

  • Interesting Huron league trends looking at the MHSAA enrollment stats. Huron, Jefferson, Airport, Flat Rock and Riverview all have significant increases in student population in their underclasses. SMCC shows modest increase, Milan remains stable and GI shows student population loss. What will the effect be on football? Is this because of school of choice? What do you think?

  • AMEN to your November 25, 2013 at 10:03 PM post! really well stated. Mitroka will be back. He is ahead of schedule post surgery and has full range of motion. Already out of his brace. And, if JV teams are an indicator...GI JV went undefeated two years ago which is a great sign for the devils.

    • They beat Ypsilanti and Ypsilanti lincoln who won SEC so that mean Milan can play in SEC. Oh both those schools are at least 500 students more. Just beat Milan next year or shut up. Reigning Champs 2xs

  • Divisions are based on enrollment and nothing else! Milan should move to a league with teams from similar enrollment sizes. They play in the huron league were half the teams are schools with 400 less kids. Just because they have a good record in this league does not mean they will do well against teams who were challenged all year in bigger better leagues.

River view, Airport, Milan an SMCC should find a new league or play in one together and add teams their own size.

  • Milan has a thin senior class next year and the JV team wasn't that good. So how exactly will they reload? Please explain.

    • Hey look Milan is good in other sports like bball baseball swimming ccountry. They don't need excuses. They have the kids they have and go as far as their talent and coach's take them. There's over 200 teams who don't make playoffs. So to make playoffs is good you i#@$ t.

    • Well stop letting students into the school who don't live in the "small town" of Milan. You are D3, your enrolment says so! Or maybe get into a league that better prepare yourselves for the playoffs. So don't give me this crap about "shouldn't be D3!" I know, maybe we as a state can make an exception for Milan, even though they have the same enrolment as the rest of D3, we should let them play in D5 so they can feel good about their post season.

    • Lol you expect small town Milan ,who should be playing a lower division, to go on to Ford field in D-3? I don't think so. Riverview also seen how tough it is. It's just not gonna happen.

  • Kids leave because their parents believe they are the best around and that somewhere else is always better for their little All-Star. If they all stayed or if school of choice was not around the kids would have to put up or shut up.

When you get down as far as FR appears to be right now you need some time to regroup and reload. Confidence carries kids more than people admit and winning some games will have an impact. That is why parents pay $10K a year to send their kids to CC or Brother Rice... they know they will win and have success!

FR Football should step back, regroup, hire some better assistant coaches, compete for a couple of years and have some success and then rejoin the HL. All the other sports can compete, even though they have not won a HL title in years in any boys sport, they can compete as they are not as physically demanding or numbers driven. Help the kids, help the district!
