Riverview @ SMCC

Riverview (5-1) is coming off of a pasting of Flat Rock 71-7 while SMCC (5-1) was dealt their first loss by Milan 21-14. The Falcon won last year’s shootout 61-42 and are 8-2 in the last 10 games of this series between two of the top 50 programs historically in Michigan.

Riverview’s offense has been virtually unstoppable this season with senior RB’s Josh Smith and Marcus Samuels. The defense has been good enough most of the season and is much improved from last year.

SMCC is a young team that is still looking for a homerun threat on offense although Justin Carrabino has shown signs of just that. The defense has been great all season and was able to keep the Falcons in the game last week against Milan.

This should be a great game matching the big and fast Pirates against the young and smaller Falcons. I had this one pegged as a Riverview victory at the beginning of the season.  I don’t see the SMCC defense slowing down the Pirates but Riverview may have the same problem. Don’t be surprised to see the Falcons score a few times through the air this week. Pick: Riverview 34 SMCC 29

  • In the Milan View game, the View offense had 6 turnovers, 3 of which were in their own territory. had they prevented even just 2 of those turnovers, the game would have gone down to the last second. View-42 CC-30

  • Having faced and beaten both these teams, it is clear that RV's defense did not do a great job against Milan.

It was 20-14 at half and Milan scored another 28 points in the 2nd half.

With CC, Milan got 21 total.

Both offenses had a couple of good drives against Milan.

    __ Offenses (even)

__ Defenses (edge goes to SMCC).

__ Key factor (SMCC passing game)

What surprised Milan fans is the CC throwing game. They completed several 3rd and long passes.

With those two factors the edge goes to SMCC.

Look for 4 long CC drives to score.

Look for RV to get a couple big plays.

    28-14.

Well....Milan graduates 21 seniors including my two Player of the Year picks. No JV team really hurts the depth of Milan and it is really tough to ask kids who played freshmen ball to jump all the way to varsity in one season.

Flat Rock graduates 22 seniors from a 31 man roster that went 4-5. My Alma Mater may be hard pressed to win a game next season.

Riverview has most of their skill and speed players back although they must figure out how to defend people.

SMCC is loaded, GI will be tough again. Airport will at least have some stability to go with some solid talent and Huron could have possibly their best team ever.

Of course this is just one man's opinion. Please remember though, nobody outside of Milan picked the Big Reds to do anything this season.

  • Check Snooze2you the website. Also Chris has it attached to his homepage. If the playoffs started today Melvindale and Riverview would play. The Downriver league is much faster and athletic than the Huron League. Milan would lose to Wyandotte, Allen Park, Melvindale and Taylor Truman.
