Well said. Thanks for including Jefferson, but Cisco is past his time. The devoted assistants who want to replace him very much have the mentality you stated.
When you have a good program the kids will come to you, one way or another.
You can say they all practice the same but the reality is that they don't. You can practice hard and still get no place but if you practice hard and the right way then you are talking results. So to say that all teams practice like each other is just a false claim. Go watch the difference.I am not saying the private schools all practice better either. They just seem to have better coaches all around. No doubt that schools like Milan, Airport at times, GI and Jefferson for the most part are right there with hard work and coaching. The results of these programs speak for themselves. My point is no matter if it is private or public the coaches make the difference and a practice is not just a practice. As far as the school of choice comment I believe it is true to a point. Look at Inkster, Melvindale and Rouge. They have all had loaded teams with kids not from within the school district limits. It may not make a difference at Huron but other schools it makes a huge difference. I do see this effecting basketball more than football.
We will never know if Caledonia and Muskegon would have beat Wyandotte. Brother Rice is way stacked, kids move here to go there. No recruiting there.
Winners division.?? Great idea. We will see who the winners are then.
All kids practice hard and many have good coaches, any coach is only as good as the talent he has.
The private/public issue will go on and on. Any school can recruit some and use the school of choice card. Look at Milan, they are coming to the top in Football, Basball and Basketball. Rumors are everywhere that they have kids from different areas.
Well, they have done it properly and are helping their program immensely. If all the schools do this, the private school advantage will disappear, because public school is free.
I believe Milan beat our local private school over the last year in all 3 of those sports.
A new facility helps also. Look at Dundee, they are on the rise too.
Hope the blog continues!!!
I think that the private school argument is old as well but don't think for a minute that school of choice choice is an advantage. Most public schools have limited spots available. Huron has open enrollment but I believe they had 7 spots open for 9th grade this year. Fifty kids may apply but it is a random drawing that is in an open public forum.
As for practicing harder or working harder. no they don't. All kids practice hard. Take Riverview for instance, those kids are put together. That comes from hours and hours in the weight room and conditioning.
As for the best coach, I think Jack is a great coach but is he the best in the league? I don't know. Stergalas has an impressive resume it would be tough to discount him.
Do SMCC and private schools have advantages? Yea, I think they do but are they unfair? No way. You know about the advantages that I am talking about. Once again, they are not unfair they just are what they are. Think about it! You know what I'm talking about.
All this talk about private schools. With school of choice I don't want to hear about recruiting. Maybe they should have a division for private schools. They can call it the " Winners Division ". You might want to look at SMCC a little closer and realize that those kids and teams in the past play bigger teams with more talent but because they practice harder and have better coaching they win. Dont be a sour apple ! Give credit to where credit is due. Good job SMCC you made us proud AGAIN !
calpreps.com says the 2012 team would win 30-28.
chris who is better 2011 or 2012 grosse ile?
Muskegon and Caledonia would have beaten Wyandotte.
calpreps.com which has done a marvelous job of picking games via a computer model picked at nearly an 80% clip this season They picked 12 of16 games correct this weekend. They predicted the RICE/Dotte score to be 34-7. Calpreps projected both Caledonia and Muskegon beating Wyandotte when I enter those games.
The public school private school thing gets old. Teams just need to get better if they expect to win the coveted prize of a state championship.
So much for the private schools and the state championships?
I believe most of them are private. At least 9 or 10 anyhow.
Once again, they need their own division to battle it out.
Wyandotte was a darn good team, seen them play, took a well organized, recruited Rice team to beat them and thats a shame. They would have beat any public school team they played.
Rice beat Wyandotte 31-3. I would say my prediction of a 34-10 Rice win was pretty good. For that matter I picked Constantine to beat SMCC.
