Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Congrats to Milan on their league championship.

Grosse Ile’s JV could beat their next opponent.

I won’t be at a game next week. I have my annual Men’s Wild Game Dinner at the Carleton VFW.

I like rivalry week but would like to see it in week 4 or 5.

Mitroka or Aceves?

Airport needs to win in week 9 to make the playoffs for the 14th consecutive season.

Jesse Hoskins is most certainly the Huron League Coach of the Year.

Start submitting your thoughts on all league teams including Players of the Year.

Flat Rock’s Mike Blosser did everything but sell popcorn against Huron. He probably would have if it would have been a home game for the Rams.

Biggest underachieving team?

  • Same can be said about the public schools trying to recruit smcc kids. Fact is we have a ton of kids with alot of talent in this league at all the schools public or private and we are all proud to have them and watch some good football! Good Luck to all the teams tonight!

  • Season went by fast, I am excited for all the lopsided state championship games. Something needs to be done about that, some instances the best teams play each other is districts.

  • The state can't support the public school system as is. What would happen if their were no private schools? Could you imagine the mess then?

  • They have done a lot of good things at SMCC, no doubt. That is good to hear. They also have overcome the fact they don't have their own sports complex. Mainly, my point was, if you try, you can obtain a good education at any of our county schools, plus have some of these other things that public schools have and there is no tuition involved.

  • To the 9:01 poster --
I agree wholeheartedly with your point. I think that the whole thing boils down to how much the kid puts into the school, and also parental involvement in their kid’s studies. No, I am not talking about the parent screaming at the teacher every time their kid gets a bad grade; I am talking about the parent who enforces responsibility on the kid when he doesn’t do well. I think the money thing raises the stakes of the principles stated previously, but obviously these principles can be present no matter of the school. To the aging school/aging building thing, please go back and see your old school! They have put in a new chapel, cafeteria/multi-purpose room, and a new technology center! It’s pretty neat. They are starting up long distance learning and dual enrollment with MCCC. Sounds like they are catching up on that aspect with the public schools! And to the argument about the lack of a sports complex – where is the disadvantage? They have a place to practice and play for all of their teams.

  • You get out of school what you put into it. SMCC is built on tradition. All schools in our area have a great education if you strive for it. SMCC has lower paid teachers than most of us, aging technology and an aging building. Plus they do not have a sports complex of their own. Lastly, it cost almost $8000 a year to go there. There are some great people there, I am friends with many, and I have lots of respect for the school. But many schools in our area are just as capable of giving a good education and having great kids. SMCC gets the cream of the crop with families who chose to pay and go there. Public schools have to take in all kids and do their best. That is reality.
There is something to say about making a bad kid good, as compared to making an already good kid better. I am one of few who have attended SMCC and went to public school. Been there, know both sides. Sorry so long, hope my boss isn't on here like that other guy.

  • SMCC has nothing to offer ! Are you kidding me. Please offer my kids to go there. I would love for my kids to go there but financialy it cannot happen. First of all the education is better, bar none. You can say what you want but that is just a cold fact. Sports, they are normaly tops and this is why they recieve so much hate here because the rest of us are just jealous. I have the upmost respect for those kids and the cchool as a whole. My two kids go to Airport and honostly it is a joke from the top to the bottom. Lets be real here.
