Huron League Football 2012

The season is fast approaching. I will not be blogging this year. Quite frankly, I have just lost interest. I will most likely post scores every Friday. I will spend most Friday nights over at Huron watching the Chiefs and will be sure to see my boy Tommy O coach my Alma Mater Flat Rock.

It should be an interesting race this season. It seems like most everyone in the league will be be better with the exception of a couple teams but that may not result in better records. Here are my thoughts right now for team records in alphabetical order.

Airport 7-2

Flat Rock 3-6

Grosse Ile* 2-6
Unsure of Week 9 opponent

Huron 4-5

Jefferson 4-5

Milan 2-7

Riverview 7-2

SMCC 6-2*
Unsure of Week 1 opponent

This should give people something to talk about. Have at it.

  • The system at Milan is still evolving. There were big changes last year, but I don't know if the new OC's approach is a logical extension of last year's offense or a new direction altogether. If it's completely different, that's 3 systems in 3 seasons. A number of league schools have had the same system for years, with varsity players having learned the same offense in their youth leagues. My guess is that Milan may have their moments, but it may take a while for the kids to know the offense inside and out and perform consistently. Milan fan here, so I hope I'm wrong.

  • #7 for Airport is the best player in the league. Shutdown corner that likes to hit people and should be Potcova's main target at WR. He very well might be the best QB in the league if not for Potcova.

  • I am giving Huron League coaches fair warning: when you play Airport don't let your QB throw at #7, good chance it will be 6 points the other way. EM

  • Yeah Coach Ward ( Milan's OC) knows what he's doing. Definitly a better year than last. Milan just had two good 7 on 7 scrimmiadges vs Erie Mason and Divine Child.

  • The view had a lot of graduation last year and they were able to sneak up on people cuz no one expected them to be as good as they were. That wont happen this year. They lost their senior QB 2WR and almost their entire starting lines on both sides of the ball. I expect them to go 6-3 realistically. But wouldnt be surprised to see them go any where from 4-5 to 7-1. They have a tremendous stable of backs that should keep them in games with ball control and defense. They didnt lose as much ondefense as they did on offense.

  • Milan has a new offensive coordinator from Pioneer who really knows what he's talking about. I expect them to at least get more than 2 wins.

  • I agree with 10:47 poster for the most part. I think most will have similar records from last year except CC and GI. I doubt CC will have a 2nd straight down year and GI's heavy graduation losses will be too much to overcome. Airport-Riverview could be for the league once again. EM
