Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Coffee or Bacon?

Big rivalry game over at Navarre Field this week.

Jefferson or Flat Rock doomed for the basement this week?

Grosse Ile has another shot at ending a losing streak against Milan.

Who is the best RB in the league?

Either Huron or Riverview will take a step towards a possible playoff birth this week.

Jesse Hoskins will do good things over at Milan.

Best defensive player in the league?

Looks like the fans agree that Giarmo is the best coach in the league.

Should I make this a private fee based site next season with exclusive interviews and better coverage?

SMCC cost me a McNasty Burger for lunch last week.

Its nice to see the GI staff took my advice and used their running game to help their defense. :)I

  • Airport's rival has always been CC I graduated in the mid 80'sand we were rivals then. Sure we had others, then it was also Huron, but always CC....

  • What year are you talking when Airport hated Jefferson??? When I was in school Airport and Jefferson football players were all friends. I personally think everyone's rival is SMCC. Everyone wants to beat the best!!

  • Poster 11:12 is exactly right. I remember playing football at Airport in middle school and our biggest rival was Jefferson. CC was just a game to us but we all hated Jefferson. Then it changed in high school.

  • rivalries change, competitiveness will do that, you can have more than one rival, cc vs airport is definetly a rivalry, it has gotten nasty over the last couple years.

Jefferson is still rivals with cc, nobody is saying it isnt, its just that cc vs airport has had more league title implications the last couple of years, more so than jefferson.

  • Why did Giarmo buy all those copies of the monroe evening news last year as motivation for his team. I always thought that since ron montri and the evening news loved giarmo and cc so much that they would just send him as many free papers as he would like.

  • I played for Riverview in the Mid 90's, and we could not have cared about Grosse Ile. We wanted to beat Gabriel Richard. And with Coach Lessner at the helm we ALWAYS, ALWAYS wanted to beat CC, that was his big game. There can be a change in a rival. Riverview does not even play Richard any more in football. It is like the Red Wings/Avalanche rivalry for example. The Wings rivals are Chicago and the Maple Leafs. And not they only play the Leafs one time per year. A rivalry can change. It can be a short term deal too. I do not see why so many people get offended when someone says that the current SMCC/Airport football game has become a rivalry. It will be ok folks. Want to talk about a long time opponent, Riverview has been playing Huron since the 50's.

  • Mc Nasty Burger with cheese, hold the with onion hold the lettuce, bring me some onion rings, and fried pickles! Hopefully we have some open gym time after that meal chris!! GL to all Huron League Teams, stay healthy!

    -The Ole ball coach

  • OK, time for me to chime in, cant resist.

Jefferson is CC's long time cross town rival. Doubt that will ever change.

Recently(10-12 years) Airport has slid in as CC's biggest competition for the league. Thus I can see why Chris and other would say they are rivals and that does make sense.

Being that I graduated from CC some 20+ years ago I just hate to say anyone else is CC's rival other than Jefferson. It was JAMMED in our heads BEAT JEFFERSON!! We knew all the players names and would YELL them during sprints. During my day the big names were Moss, Rodnicki, Cisco, Sweat, Cvengross. They were damn good. Actually beat them twice in the same year in my day '87. That was expecially nice!

I will agree however that nowadays Airport is CC's biggest competition and if in some folks eyes that makes them rivals, then so be it. I wont argue it.
