Riverview picked to finish 7th in Huron League.

Riverview is coming off a 4-5 season that saw the Bucs finish just 2-5 in league play. Gone to Central Michigan is OL/DL Nick Beamish and 3 time All Huron Leaguer Brad Bosman. Jeff Stergalas is in his third season at his Alma Mater and has put his defensive stamp on the program.

Offensively, Riverview will be led by QB Matt Gibbons. Gibbons has a tall athletic receiving corp led by seniors Cory Turner and Chris Krach. Look for FB Brock Salser and RB Marcus Samuels to carry the ball in Stergals’s run first offense.

Defensively, look for the Pirates to once again be stingy. Riverview will be led by 1st team All Huron League LB Salser and LB Vince Maheres. The defensive line will be led by 6-1, 245 lb Blake Smith.

Riverview will once again open the season with Class A Crestwood. The Pirates beat the Chargers in last season’s opener 14-6. Riverview should be a tough match up for any team in the league and with a little luck could very well finish in the top 4 in the league while making the playoffs.

  • Riverview will be o.k. Offensively. Their D is suspect. Hopefully they'll improve as the season progresses. Their last three games are at home and they'll probably need to run the table at that point to have a shot at the playoffs. They've got some experienced guys in their skill positions so as long as the O-line holds up they'll be o.k.

  • The Bucs will be o.k. on Offense. Their D is suspect. Hopefully they will improve as the season progresses. I see them going anywhere from 3-6 to 6-3. Their last three games of the season are at home and I suspect they'll need to run the table at that point if they want to see the playoffs.

  • I see Riverview as a toss-up. They can go 2-7 or 7-2. They lost a lot of seniors but have some kids who can step up. Their coach comes from a tough Fordson system and can make any team better. The first couple weeks will show who they are...

  • I see Riverview as a toss-up, they graduated a lot of seniors but their coach, out of a tough Fordson system, can make a team better. They can go 2-7 or 7-2 right now. The first couple games will show who they are.

  • There are way to many UNCERTAINTIES about any team in the league.
Smcc-All of there back-ups recieved adequete playing time last year because they were always ahead but they won't have any leadership.
Airport-Offense is WAY to shaky after losing Mays and Kitts. Potcova still has a lot to prove.
Milan-Low numbers, new coach, lost most of team to graduation, no discipline.
Flat Rock-Defense is slow, small, Knoch and Blosser didnt look great in the scrimmage just a huge toss up.
GI-Get your popcorn ready to watch the Offense. But get ready to throw your popcorn up when you see the defense play.
Jefferson-To small, will not be Ciscos last year though he wont go out a loser. But still lost to many to graduation.
Huron-Had a good year last year but just dont see it happening again for a long time. Graduated mostly the whole offense and most defense just looks as another reloading year.
Riverview-Stergalas always has a strong D, heard Bosman was asked to come back and coach on a lower level after he is out of the Marines. Lost Beamish and Bosman, almost impossible to replace. Some nice weapons on O but the offense has been Riverviews achillies heel since Stergalas has been there, maybe Baker has lost his touch?

Just my overview of the league might not be as exciting of a year as we'd like but it is still friday night football.
