Here is the poll for defensive player of the year. There doesn’t appear to be a clear cut favorite this season but here are a few players who deserve consideration.
Colton Adkins of Airport led the Jets in tackles last season with 8 per game. The 5’9″ 175 linebacker has a nose for the football and should lead an improved Airport defense this season.
Huron DE/LB Jordan Frayer will anchor the Chief defense this season. The 6’3″ 210 lb senior is an excellent athlete and is the leading returning tackler for Huron.
Milan’s Luke Karr is one of a few returning defensive starters for the Big Reds. Karr played along side Milan standouts Joe Dunn and DeAndre Mitchell at linebacker last season and is the leading returning tackler on the team.
Flat Rock senior David Minckeweicz led the Rams in tackles last season from his defensive back position. The speedy senior will lead a much improved Ram defense this season.
Riverview’s Brock Salser was an absolute monster for the Pirates last season. The 6’0″ 210 LB led Riverview in tackles last season with 114 and will lead a physical Buc defense looking to improve on last season’s 4-5 season.
Others to watch defensively around the league are: Riverview LB Vince Maheres, Grosse Ile LB Cory Groff, Airport DB Zach Baker, Jefferson DL Kyle Fudoli, Airport DE Jake Anson, Huron DL Ken Phelps Flat Rock LB Colin Knoch and the entire SMCC defense.

Drew antonelli starting safety and rollback for smcc as a sophomore, you'll be hearing the name a lot.
Yea that was borderline, sorry if offended, but its also the truth......rams
Stay classy rams
Smcc will be down, big. it will be like thier 2008 team, sophmores will be playing, except they will not be making it to the semi finals like they did in 08. No more cusumano, lamour, wilson or pannone. eddings will fill the void at linebacker and be thier best defensive player and Adler will be the heart and soul of the offense along with leaman if he gets shifty like cusumano did and heard from someone at the scrimmage tonight that a couple of thier starters are banged up and they have a another soph. safety wearing number 3.....??
Absolutely. .....they have an advantage, my son was offered a recruiting package, err academic scholarship, what do we get out of the deal? We get to run around with our noses in the air bragging about how our child attends a private school....umm ,no thanx. Wasn't worth the hassle..
...rams
This guy is accusing cc of recruiting from the cyo. That's like airport recruiting from wager. Who cares
I wonder how Many cc kids went on to play college ball. Bet it's less then airport Milan and a couple other hl schools. I think the success cc has is not because of superb talent over everyone it's because they have a great coach and students that know what it takes because of those that have gone before them. Let's be be honest here, airport, Milan and view all have more talented individuals but somehow not the better team.
Please stop hating on smcc, they have earned everything they have from hard work and dedication to there school team and to the players who wore the green and gold before them, its a tradition in which if you didnt go there you wont understand!!! This is suppose to be the year people get back at smcc lets just sit back and watch what happens, but i wouldnt bet against them. Good luck to all the huron leauge teams this year.
All the cheap shots directed at SMCC only prove one thing
Every high school coach in the country keeps an eye on the elementary and middle school programs for young talent. If they don't, they probably don't have a very successful program. And talk about freebies, those public school kids get free tuition, free bus transportation to school, free books and supplies, some get free lunch. Man, what a sweet deal !!!!!! If smcc could offer that, just think of the success they could have......wow
