Late April Football

Look for the blog to pick up a bit over the next month or two.

The voters decided that SMCC is the preseason favorite at this point to win the league championship.

I have a few thoughts in general regarding the teams and the upcoming season.

Airport: The Jets will miss Jodeci Mays talent but look for a better season from the Jets this year with numerous underclassmen returning and the coaching staff a year better.

Flat Rock: The Rams can go no where but up after their worst season in school history. FR played numerous sophomores last season and the experience and maturity should result in a better season.

Grosse Ile: The Red Devils return two major offensive threats. Look for an offensive focus that runs the ball more this year and controls the clock a bit better. GI’s best defense may be a long sustained time consuming drive. GI should be an improved team

Huron: It will be hard for the Chiefs to be any better than they were last season. They must replace some excellent football players. Don’t look for the Chiefs to drop to far back though, Dan Kalbfleisch is producing football players in New Boston that want to win.

Jefferson: Jefferson will be their typical selves but lose a lot of seniors including most of the skill guys on offense. The Bears will be a tough victory for any team in the league but will most likely not be any better than last season.

Milan: The Big Reds biggest problem won’t be a talented football team, it will be replacing Milan legend Steve Robb. Look for Milan to have a good season but to take a small step backward without Robb at the helm.

SMCC: The Falcons have loads to replace but quite frankly have the best program and coach in the league. SMCC most likely won’t repeat last season but don’t cry too much for the Falcons, they’ll be good as usual.

Riverview: Tough team to figure out. One thing is for sure is that the Bucs will play solid defense. Riverview needs to find a way to score though if they plan on improving on last season’s record.

  • From what I remember about Hurons season last year is that the Senior class this year barely played. Huron was a SENIOR LED football team last year. I don't think that the players this year can step it up and be the leaders that last years Seniors were! This years senior class only played when Huron was up by 20+ points. Huron does lack a little bit of experience. I don't see them winning very many games this year. I'm thinking 3-6 or 4-5.

  • Airport looses its one dimension look for a balanced attack. The games where they needed their star he didn't show anyway. Airport benefits and will be better without the All Stater. He helped Barber get his first year out of the way.

  • Oh boy here we go Airport fans TOOTING their horns...

    sorry coudlnt resist!

All kidding aside.... this will come down to who wins the Airport/CC game to decide the league crown. Other games will be close but whoever wins that game will have the upper hand.

  • I'm sorry monroe county but you have no knowledge of the Huron League making comments like that. You claim Airport lost the most? While they lost some good seniors in Mays, Kitts, Williams & Deweese, overall the senior class was very thin. Then you claim they have nobody coming up, what about a 9-0 JV team to go along with a boatload of returning starters? Get your facts straight.

  • i hate to say it but airports jv team did go undefeated last year beating all huron leauge teams so before you go saying that airport has nothing comming up please look at the all around standings

  • Because Monroe County is your real name right? Pff your just as anonymous as whoever you're telling to stop being anonymous, just thought I'd point that out champ.

    j.w.

  • Well first of all. Why don't you go watch some football. CC lost a lot. But have a lot coming up. AIRPORT LOST THE MOST. With nothing coming up. So before you come and rip on me. Stop posting as anonymous and say something useful. I said Flat Rock would surprise some. Not they'd win the damn league.

  • "Monroe County" doesn't know much about football with a statement like that. Who cares what his top 3 picks will be. He's only dreaming. CC and Airport will be on top. Just a matter of which order. And folks already posting CC vs. Airport scores? Another dreamer/wishful thinker.

  • TO pick anyone other then central or airport to win the league would be admitting to all that you have no clue what you are talking about. Trust me when I say the writer of this blog will pick one of those two teams.
