I need help!

I will be posting my All League picks and Player of the Year choices on Monday 10/25/10.

I need help choosing the Player of the Year for both offense and defense. I have listed a few players worth considering and would like the readers of the blog to vote. You can vote down your party line or you can be objective. It is up to you.

Offensive Player of the Year?

Kyle Burkhardt: This 5-10 210lb offensive guard from SMCC is the best offensive lineman in the league and is a returning 1st team all league selection. The Falcons have rushed for nearly 3000 yards and 44 touchdowns this season behind Burkhardt and his teammates.

Jodeci Mays: The senior running back from Airport is a returning all league selection. He has rushed for 1,679 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. Mays was the Blogs pick for Offensive Player of the Year last season.

Robbie White: The 6-0 185 lb junior QB from Grosse Ile has thrown for 1,589 yards and 15 touchdowns. White has also ran for 419 yards and 13 touchdowns while leading the 2nd highest scoring offense in the Huron League.

Sterling Wilson: The senior running back has rushed for 1,227 yards and 14 touchdowns for Huron this season. Wilson is one of the main reasons the Chiefs obtained their first winning season since 1978.

Defensive Player of the Year?

Brad Bosman: The 6-1 200 lb defensive lineman from Riverview is a returning all league player on both offense and defense. Bosman has recorded 94 tackles for the 2nd best scoring defense in the Huron League.

Joe Dunn: The senior LB from Milan is among the league leaders in tackles and is the defensive leader for the playoff bound Big Reds.

Anthony Kitts: The 250 lb senior defensive lineman from Airport is a returning all league selection and has been the anchor for the Jets defensively this season.

Michael Pannone: Pannone from SMCC was last season’s Blog selection for Defensive Player of the Year. He is among the league leaders in tackles and he is a two time all league selection at safety. He is quite simply the best player on the best defense in the league.

  • Pannone and mays. pannone has the best stats on the best team in the league. mays ran on everybody. no questions asked

  • Cusimano for Offensive player of the year, he should at least be on the list! He's had a great year and is invaluable to his team.

  • pannone can not, will not,and never could defend the pass...too short and too slow..he is a good tackler for his size...not hating on the kid,but am being brutally honest...he has a heart as big as a man hole cover...too short to defend the fade route and consistantly gets burned in later rounds of the playoffs when they play better opponents...dad, be honest with his talents....he will be ,maybe at best, a ok NAIA player..good luck in the playoffs SMCC...This is your year, mark my words.....Jack brings it home this year...

  • Obviously we all want our athletes to be recognized for their accomplishments on the field. In terms of offense people always look at stats, if that decides OPY then Mayes wins hands down. He was a solid runner no question, even against the best defenses in the Huron League. You can consider Dunn, Wilson, or one of the CC runners but bottom line Mayes is it. The other thing to consider is to win in the Huron League you must control the football and have a solid running game, Mayes did that. QB's can have great numbers but if if they are not providing wins then it does take away from their claim to the POY.

Defensively is a different beats. One:What is the defensive scheme? Two: Where are the tackles being made? Three: How are the stats calculated? Usually solos and assist are not tallied they go in a lump some---unfortunately. Sometimes numbers reflect changes in scheme or improvement at other positions. If your getting tackles way down field or getting tackles because your defense is on the field forever that has to play into the equation. Lastly: How valuable id the player. If he wasn't in would it affect the defense? I think Dunn, Bosman, Kitts, and Pannone are all good defensive candidates. But certainly in big games and quality play against the top Huron schools there's seems to be a separation. Take it for what its worth. I know many say it should not matter the team record or standing, but there's a reason the team's success. If you look at their play usually two or three players make a difference. Good Luck to all.

  • to JW: Not sure about Bicy and Robinson's freshman year but they went to CC their sophomore, junior and senior years. AND, for the record, both Robinson and Bicy played JV their sophomore year.

And who exactly were the lineman that tranferred to CC "late in high school"? Yeah, that's what I thought.

I graduated a year after Robinson and Bicy. Feel free to verify the above facts in one of your CC "friends" yearbook. Although, that would require your comments to be responsible and based in fact.

So there you go---consider your point argued.

  • if any of you"huron league fans" knew anything u wouldnt be bashing that Pannone has 70 tackles right now.
hes a little fact Pannone has only played one FULL game all 9 games this season. and only 3 games where he played after half time,
idk if you are smart enough but if you do any type of math you would see that he bassicly has played an average of 5 to six games if that, he gets pulled out because the score is unreasonable to be in there so 70 tackles for playing half of the games this season isnt a bad stat. and as far as running the ball, WHY its not worth it to lose your best player by giving him the ball when you dont need him, and he had two carries against milan and has about 20 yards, so if they need it he will get it.
i have no clue why everyone would bash a player. i understand team rivalries and that is ok if someone bashes a team but you are honestly going to bash a player who is / will most likely be the leading tackler in smcc history over in , one of the best if not the best safties to come out of smcc and a kid who has been to the show and has a good chance to lead his team this year not to mention all the accolades he has recieved.
be proud the league is over everyone should root for everyone at this point were a community now.
    and congratz HURON!!!!!

  • Weclowski is a great player, great leader and IMO deserves this. Not to mention what Huron has accomplished this year.

  • Recruit talk was aimed alot at years past. I graduated from Airport in 06 so i was a senior during the 05 season.(yes I know we won districts, and yes I know cc went to the finals, so save it) I was friends with alot of players from cc, and they would laugh and joke about the recruiting. Bicy, Robinson, and a few of the lineman did NOT go to cc until late in highschool. Anyone care to argue that? Because that is where all the recruit talk comes from. They didn't care to hide it, they flat out admited it. Stuff happens behind closed doors, and only the people behind them can say whats happening for sure.

    j.w.

  • pannone is good. he is where he needs to be evrery time. when he gets a stinger and gets taken out for a play or two, its VERY noticeable. he would shine if he played on any team, it doesnt matter that cc is the best in the league. who cares about his size, he could keep up with any d3 or d1 school out there. he has the determination to good qualities to do so.
