Jefferson outscores GI 75-56

Here is a bonus write up courtesy of Flat Rock 2010 graduate Dave Topoleski.

It was Cisco’s ground game against Bodners passing attack. Both offenses played with a chip on their shoulder after poor showings in the previous week in this high scoring affair which included 131 total points, 75 of which came in the second half.

The game started in Jeffersons favor as they recoverd a Robbie White fumble. Bryan McCullough carried the ball four times and capped the drive with a 1 yard scoring run. The Red Devils would go three and out on their next possesion, an Eric Morrow blocked punt followed by a Morrow scoop and score would put the Bears up 14-0. GI finally found a rythm on their third possesion after several White to Jim Cameron passes the Devils scored on an Alex Kish 3 yard run. It didnt take long for Jefferson to respond however as the second play of the drive saw Jake Sterling connect with Drew Valente for a 45 yard pass which would set up Bryan McCullough’s second score of the night to give the bears a 21-7 lead.

The second quarter scoring started quick with a White quarterback sneak from the 1. Jefferson would once again respond quickly as Eric Morrow showed his speed on a 92 yard kickoff return for the score to put Jefferson back in control of the game 27-14 after Sterling missed the pat. GI and Jefferson both went 3 and out giving the Devils the ball on there own 31. Kish would cap a 69 yard drive with a score of 6 yards. Jefferson would finish the scoring of the first half with a 33 yard pass from Sterling to Morrow giving the bears a 35-21 lead.

The scoring continued fast and often in the third quarter when Jefferson’s Morrow found the endzone for his third time on the first play of the second half with a 57 yard touchdown run. GI quickly responded with a 79 yard TD pass from White to Cameron to cut the Jefferson lead to 42-28. Again Jefferson would score on the first play of the drive with Cole Jennings taking the ball 70 yards for the score. However Bodner went back to the same play that worked the previous drive which would hook up White and Cameron again for a 61 yard score this time, putting the score at 49-35. Morrow and McCullough would carry the Bears on a 70 yard drive that ended with a McCullough 3 yard TD run. The Red Devils offense wasnt done scoring though as they capped a 65 yard drive with a White to Burl Adkins 37 yard scoring pass jacking the score up to 56-42 Jefferson. The Bears finished the third quarter scoring on a McCullough 10 yard run.

GI would resume the scoring to start the fourth on a White 4 yard run again moving the score up to 61-49. On the ensuing kickoff the Devils recovered the kick which was not meant as an onside to give them the ball. White and Cameron would connect again on a 23 yard pass to finish the scoring for GI. McCullough and Sterling which each find the endzone one more time finally completing the scoring. After GI failed to respond Sterling would kneel the ball twice to give the final score of 75-56.

Thanks again to Dave for covering the game. Read about the rest of the league at the Examiner.

  • SITOFN does do a lot of good but also bad, whenever something little happens he hops on the bandwagon and rags on the team. SITOFN also has complained to the school board that there should be no chest bumps on the sidelines, i am sorry but i feel that the school board doesnt have time for chest bumps, or anything silly like that. keep up the good work christ, i love the stuff you post

  • SITOFN, and any other parent on this blog for that matter, it is funny that you claim to be an adult, because the fact that you come on to a blogging website to trash your own child's football teammates, coaches, and program tends to make you seem like a 10 year-old. Why don't you just grow up a bit and voice your opinion in person. That, or sack up like a normal adult would, show a little bit of class, and keep your mouth shut. I ensure you that the coaches of this team are putting in their absolute best effort in order to put the most competitive squad they can on the field. As for players chest bumping, I am sorry that your child is unable to make plays that warrant a celebration. These kids work their butts off every day for their team, and when they make a nice play, they deserve to congratulate each other, and they deserve to be congratulated.I pity you, you silly, silly, person, and I hope that, somehow, you see the light, and stop posting on this blog. Let me be your voice of reason; you surely have more important ways to spend your time, and it would be in the best interest of you, your child, and the rest of the program to stop playing on a gossip site like an adolescent girl. Best, a nineteen year old cousin of a GI football player.

  • RE:"So it's come down to this....
somehow GI's performance is my doing?

Now that is a treasure...I'm going to focusing on CC now, I might be able to bring them down too!!"

    FUNNY

  • So it's come down to this....
somehow GI's performance is my doing?

Now that is a treasure...I'm going to focusing on CC now, I might be able to bring them down too!!

    What a crock.

I'm moving on to next week....it's Colvin Cup time.

    SITOFN

  • sitofn, chest bumping is done from teammate to teammate, unlike some celebrations that are "look at me" if your celebrating with your teamates how is that bad? just my thoughts, go bucs!

  • Trashing one's team coach is in essence slamming the team & school as a whole! You may not agree with a coach's ability of coaching one's team but that is something you should personally keep off of posts & possibly discuss behind close doors with the coaching staff. How do u expect a team to be a team when u keep insulting it's leader? Our children, I am sure, read these posts and what does that do for their self esteem? I am going to leave all of you with a quote with a previous post on this blog which I believe personally is well said & true. "We as parents need to think before we speak; as we teach our children. We first must show good sportsmen-ship if we expect our children to do so! Trash talking on either side of the field doesn't make someone/ some team better! It just makes the ones whom are talking the trash simply look & sound trashy. It is not a good representation of the school nor the team you wanted to bring up it just brings them both down! So as a parent I suggest we might in the future clean the trash up & give our teams words of encouragement leaving out the trash talking"...."just a thought"....Enough said!

  • You have to admit that the fortunes of GI football is a HOT TOPIC....good it needs some HEAT!!

If I may, some quick rebuttals:
    1) I don't hide behind the blog, it's just that, A BLOG (I always state who I am SITOFN)...unlike many.
    2) INDIVIDUAL "look at me" behavior is UNACCEPTABLE in a team sport and NO COACH OR PARENT should ever put up with it..EVER! It RUINS team morale and Coaches AND Parents own the discipline to address it....and GI is
    NOT a D I S C I P L I N E D team. Flame me for calling a player # out for it..I'm OK, but I suspect it's someone with guilt.
    3) The coaching chatter is TOO HOT and needs to cool down, but the results are DATA and DATA speaks.
Some other points; 1) GI parents have been supportive of Coach B...remember the Oh-4 years, I don't recall anyone asking for his head then (actually many parents were committed to NOT running off coaches like some poor GI behavior in the past), 2) I have supported Coach B multiple times on this BLOG, I've only taken issue the last 2 weeks.

11:24 - Great post, but that would REALLY be good if you add "did you also praise your kids and coaches this week too!!" PMA - Posit... Ment.. At......

123 points against in 2 weeks is something I just can't understand nor accept. SOMETHING IS BROKE. Who owns fixing it; Parents (NOPE, except for discipline and encouragement), Coaches and Players(YEP), Bloggers (NOPE).

    Sorry, I've rambled a bit...SITOFN

  • The parents have their hands all over this loss as well.

Think about it, "Did you say something negative this week about your kid's coaching staff or another player?"

Then your to blame as well.

  • Wow, wow, wow, GI parents. You guys are the biggest bunch of babies I have ever heard!!!! You run off good coaches who won games (Coach Flanary), and complain when the new coach comes in when you have not enough talent to win games. Face the facts, GI has been a terrible team since Flanary left. It's what you guys wanted, so stop complaining!
