Defensive Player of the Year

Michael Pannone SMCC: The 5’8″ 175 lb junior made 105 tackles during the regular season from his defensive back position. The Falcons led the league in points against by giving up just under 10 points per game. Pannone is a fierce hitter with excellent speed and was also 1st Team All Huron League as a sophomore. His defensive prowess helped the Falcons to their 19th Huron League title and 1st since 2006.

  • umm.. before you argue against weclowski learn how to spell lol you misspelled the first and last words of your statement.. your a joke. I hear sylvan is opening new classes soon, I request you take them.

  • huron league football,

i would like to say thank you for doing this blog.
i played in the huron league 5 years ago now and i am still playing college football and i appriciate you doing this because i love coming here every friday night to check and see whether or not my old team won. the insight and information is awsome!! keep it up!!

  • hye before you argue for Weclowski learn how to spell. i think u were trying to say traded. not trated. its called english. typical hurn

  • Best Defense in the league...yes SMCC. Best defender...no one pick here will satisfy.

The best Defender regardless of total team performance by far was Weclowski. I too witnessed the best hit of the year from that young man....but I also saw Teen and Church make great cuts and run away from him too. And I'm sure many other backs ran away from him too...if they had the chance.

BUT, you can't make every tackle and neither did Pannone. Certainly a tough pick no matter what.

  • This is why the Huron League should do away with all of this "player of the year" crap. Weclowski was a UNANIMOUS FIRST TEAM ALL LEAGUE choice by the coaches AND Chris (of course unan when it is only one guy's thoughts)! Player of the year awards just cause great players to feel snubbed. Weclowski should feel honored that he was a unan choice and he WILL be all region. Why can't the coaches and bloggers leave it at that. Pannone is also a first team all leaguer, as well as TJ and Bosman. All of them are totally different players with different, yet tremendous, skill sets. Why must the coaches attempt to single one kid out of a group of 11 studs.

This petty argument ensues after every Huron League sport ends (i.e. Reed v. Scarton...2 totally different, yet invaluable players). What about last year when Crump won the offensive award over the Offensive tackle from Airport who is now at Indiana playing football. Was Crump really a better offensive football player than him? No. Crump was the QB on the team that won the league.

I wish they would just pick the all league team and leave well enough alone. There is no reason any of the kids that made the first team all league squad should feel snubbed in any way. I am sure in 10 years when they are blogging about how the kids and the league aren't as tough as they were "back when they played," the only thing any of them will remember or care to remember is that they were first team all league.

  • ok I understand he is the best defensive player on the best defensive team. But imagine if they trated teams?? My botomline question is do you think pannone is better than weclowski?

  • Please read the previous posts. The best defensive player on the best defensive team in the league is Mike Pannone. I've seen him 3 times, the kid is a great player.

  • I really dont understand how weclowski isnt getting any awards this is terrible chris, u know he is a better player than pannone. Its not his fault he has below average coaching and a terrible supporting cast on defense ( He has 157 tackles the 2nd leading tackler has 48) if weclowski was on cc or airport he would still be putting up great numbers. He is the best defensive player in the region let alone the league and one of the best in the state.
