Blissfield/SMCC

As far as I can tell this matchup dates back to the 1962 season. The Falcons own an 8-2 record in the ten games that the two schools have played. Blissfield beat the Falcons 20-19 back in the playoffs on November 2nd, 2007. The Royals then advanced to the title game at Ford Field where they fell to Saginaw Nouvel 12-7.

Blissfield plays in the LCAA and finished 3rd behind Hudson and Onsted. The Royals losses to those schools are by a combined 6 points. Blissfield likes to run the ball and are led by running backs Dalton Goetz and Cody Spotts. The quarterback for Blissfield is junior Eric Schmidt. His favorite target is 6’6″ tight end Dylan Esterline. The offensive line is led by Christian Sablich and Eric Gniewwkowski. Defensively, the Royals are led by linebackers Eric Ford and Taylor Kuhn along with defensive end Devin Suiter. The SMCC running backs will need to keep their heads up as defensive back Cody Spotts likes to step up and lay the wood on people.

SMCC has been very workman like this year in route to a Huron League championship. Six different backs carry the ball for the Falcons and they run behind the best offensive line in the Huron League. Defensively the Falcons have been steady and have stepped up when they have been called upon. Defenders; Dylan Miracle, T.J. Lovell and Michael Pannone lead the Falcon defense that is very good against the run.

This could be an excellent game to go and watch although you may not get a seat unless you get their early. After seeing the Royals I don’t think they can stop the Falcon ground game. The bigger question will be if the Royals can score as much on offense themselves. This is a playoff game and anything can happen. This game may just come down to special teams and turnovers. I see the Falcons scoring five TD’s in this game and conversions may play a role in the outcome. I say SMCC wins a thriller 34-33.
