Week 9 Part II

Willow Run/Riverview: Riverview and Willow Run have never met in football. Both teams seem to be playing their best football of the season right now. The Flyers lost their first three games and have reeled off five in a row. Riverview lost their first six and have won the last two.

The Bucs have been a tough team the last few weeks with the emergence of Ali Saad at running back. The rushing defense has been solid all year. Although the record doesn’t reflect it much, Riverview is a much improved team and will only get better in the years to come.

Willow Run arrives at week 9 with a playoff birth on the line against the Pirates. “The Run” has been playing much better the last five weeks after struggling early on in the year. The Flyer defense has step up big as of late. They have shutout three of their last four opponents.

This is not a good time for the Flyers to be playing Riverview. The Bucs play a much tougher schedule and Willow Run is the beneficiary of a cupcake type schedule with the exception of Mendon. Riverview wins this game 28-7.

Ida/Grosse Ile: These teams have met in week 9 the past two seasons and Ida has won in a rout both times. Each team enter this week with a 4-4 record and this should be an intersting matchup.

The Red Devils are not the same team that lost 20 straight in just over two seasons. The offense at GI is capable of putting up big numbers and you just can’t focus on one aspect of their scheme. Look for Ida to try and make an effort to stop Dex Teen which should open the door for the GI passing attack.

Ida’s four losses have come at the hands of four very good teams who will all make the playoffs. Ida is led by Bryce Woelmer and Paul Galloro who are both capable of putting up big numbers on the ground. The Bluestreaks will test the GI defense who has had trouble stopping the ground game.

This game should be a shootout and could be won by the team who has the ball last. The Islanders will have revenge on their minds while Ida is looking to continue their dominance over GI. This is a tough one to call and I will reluctantly go with the team who won the previous two games. Give me Ida 40-35.

  • i know this does not belong in this post, but i don't know where else to put it. now, i'm hearing the SMCC/Dundee JV will be more like a scrimmage because Dundee is moving up the sophmores for the varsity game on friday and you cannot play two games in a week. heard they won't even be doing kickoffs. Does anyone know if this is true?

  • I could care less. I stopped reading mlive three years ago. I just figured by posting on there that real fans would like to read something objective as opposed to all the corn bread that is on there. I'll just keep doing my thing.

  • ..... dont let the pin heads on that "other" forum site get ya down. as you have said before, your a former coach, so im sure you can take it. the other forum is for all of southeast michigan not just the huron league. keep up the good work.

  • GI has more to win in this game than they've had in 3 years. Being Oh4 going into game 9 is more a mental "death march" vs an opportunity to have a winning season.... Something GI hasn't seen for many moons.

While I agree both teams will play this is as a pride game, GI might just have more incentive.

GI team health is improved over last week and the D did show up, BUT it needs to be better.

Look for the swarming mentality on D to show up again this week like at the beginning of the year and as HLF predicted....the air show may move from the GI naval air station to GIHS stadium

Also, I would not be so quick to discount the running game...GI CAN and does RUN the pigskin with the best of em...you witness that last week Mr HLF!!

    GI 46
    IDA 20

Strap it up tight boys...REAL TIGHT and bring a winning season to GI......much to the surpise of the HL and to the dismay of all the GI haters! Lots of WIND in the forcast too.

  • Great call on the Riverview game. This team is going to a force in the next few years.

Anticipating your take on the Airport/Flushing game.
